If so, we're looking for someone like you to joint our team at APL.
We are seeking a mechanical engineer interested in thermal management of hypersonic vehicles; to helps us design and evaluate the next generation of vehicles. We are developing the next generation of vehicles to support time critical strike. Working with DARPA, we support the Navy, Air Force and Army in there efforts bring these systems on line for the defense of our country.
As a Senior Aerospace Thermal Engineer...
Your primary responsibility will be to provide technical contributions and leadership in the design and analysis of new hypersonic vehicle structures used for strike weapon systems in regards to thermal response.
You will develop appropriate thermal models, applying the areoheating to the surface of the vehicle determining the temperature distribution throughout the flight,
You will develop thermal management solutions to ensure structural survivability for the duration of the mission.
You will work as part of team to achieve a design that meets the mission objects, making recommendations regarding thermal management within the contrainst of the overall architecture of the vehicle design.
You will provide regular interface with Government sponsors, industry partners, and key Laboratory program and technical staff on activities related to the development and analysis of the thermal repsonse of the hypersonic vehicles.
You will provide support for thermal testing and structural performance validation
You will produce written documents and presentations of technical work.
You meet our minimum qualification for the job if you have...
Masters in Mechanical Engineering or other relevant technical discipline.
Five years of a combination of graduate education and/or applicable experience in thermal structural analysis and design.
Relevant areas of expertise include (but are not limited to): knowledge of high-temperature (insulation and structural) materials; laboratory and field testing of components and systems; and thermo-structural stress analysis.
Proven ability to use computer-aided structural analysis tools.
Consistent record of accomplishments of successful technical work.
Demonstrated teaming skills involving engineering and analysis tasks.
Strong oral and written communication skills and interpersonal skills.
Demonstrated ability to effectively interface with Government leaders and industry technical contributors.
High initiative, motivation, flexibility, and interest in working in a fast-paced team environment.
Occasional travel by vehicle, aircraft, etc. to government and contractor facilities as required.
Occasional work in secure facilities.
Are able to obtain Interim Secret level security clearance by your start date and can ultimately obtain Secret level clearance. If selected, you will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship.
You will go above and beyond our minimum requirements if you have..
PhD in Mechanical Engineering or other relevant technical discipline.
Experience in designing for high-temperature aerodynamic environments.
Understanding of state of the art in supersonic/hypersonic flight vehicle structures and their manufacturing, fabrication, and application.
experience with thermo-structural stress analysis.
Active Secret clearance.
