The applicant for this Research Technician II position will be performing biochemical analyses (radio chemical and spectrophotometric assays, HPLC analyses etc) on blood samples (plasma,red blood cells, and lymphocytes) related to the diagnosis and treatment of several rare inherited disorders of purine metabolism.
The technician will enter data from analyses into computer files (for example excel or similar spread sheets), and hard copies of data and calculated results will be maintained in laboratory notebooks.
In addition to performing biochemical tests and recording the results of testing, responsibilities will also include entering information from paperwork received with samples into log books; processing samples for analysis (involving centrifugation, preparing extracts, etc.); and tracking and storing sample material in refrigerators and freezers following testing.
Other responsibilities include routine maintenance of water baths and various other equipment used in the analyses, in accordance with good laboratory practices required for maintaining CLIA certification of the laboratory.
The employee will participate in proficiency testing as required by CLIA.
This work will be performed under the direction of, and to assist, scientists and research associates who have been working in this laboratory for a number of years.
