Scientific computing is a strategic asset for AstraZeneca. We are looking for a hands-on DevOps operational leader who can drive the release, deployment, operations and monitoring of our scientific computing platforms available to all science units across the globe.
You will be part of our global operations team running the platform. Experience in operating a high-performance computing (HPC) environment is a must. We seek a “do-er” who manages and develops relationships with the science units to explore innovative ways to address the computational and informatics needs of the science community globally.

Overview of Science IT
The purpose of the Science IT division within AstraZeneca is to partner with the Drug R&D teams to provide world-class Informatics and in Scientific Information & Technology solutions to accelerate the drug pipeline. Delivering the Science IT portfolio of projects and services needs a team with a hybrid skill set of technical ability and knowledge of the R&D processes.
Responding quickly and effectively to a range of requests on the HPC platform, ultimately ensuring availability and stability of the platform to our Science Units
Diagnosing and solving issues and problems
Manage and develop relationships with our science teams to understand computational challenges and bring forward solutions utilizing the HPC platform
Contribute to a clear roadmap for operational excellence of our platform
Providing technical input across projects using
Strong evidence of hands-on experience designing and configuring large-scale HPC environments,
Experience providing scientific software for users: configuring, installing, tuning and maintaining such software
Experience of cloud computing infrastructure (e.g. AWS, Google, Azure) is a plus.
Configuration management experience (e.g. chef, salt, puppet, ansible, cfengine)
Experience in managing a virtualized private cloud environment (e.g. OpenStack)
Experience with container technology e.g LXD, Singularity to Docker is a plus
Demonstrated development experience with a variety of programming languages, tools and technologies (Java/C++, Python/Ruby/Perl, SQL, AWS) is a plus
Experience of developing and managing relationships with 3rd party suppliers
Bachelor’s degree in Computational, Physical or Biological Science, Engineering or equivalent area (Masters or PhD preferred)
Experience in high-performance scientific computing
Experience within a research-based scientific computing environment a plus, preferably Life Sciences (Pharma, BioTech)
