Join Cartwheel to help tackle the student mental health crisis.
Kids spend most of their days in the classroom. And teachers and staff, who play a vital role in their development, are often the first to notice when something is off. But with 1 in 5 young people struggling with mental health, schools are getting crushed by a downward spiral in student crises and staff burnout.
With large increases in federal funding for schools and the rise of telehealth, schools are reimagining what mental health support can look like.
Cartwheel is an early-stage startup building technology-enabled mental health services that put schools at the center. We see our role as supporting on-campus counselors, psychologists, and school social workers who see kids every day. Instead of going around them, we collaborate with them. This means:
- Earlier intervention
- Higher student and family engagement in care
- Better coordination among the trusted adults in a student’s life
Kids shouldn't just aspire to get out of bed and drag themselves to class. They should be able to experience joy. They deserve to envision and build a life they’re excited to live. If you join Cartwheel, you’ll help make this vision a reality for millions of students across the country. We’re backed by top investors including General Catalyst, BoxGroup, and Able Partners, and we're looking for scrappy, mission-driven teammates to join our team.
ABOUT THE ROLE
As Business Operations Manager, you’ll work directly with the co-founders to scale Cartwheel in our home market of Massachusetts and launch in 3 new states this fall. You’ll work cross-functionally, supporting new partnership development, clinical operations, and care team management, and thought leadership. In doing so, you’ll help lay the foundation for Cartwheel to become the leading partner for schools nationwide in tackling the student mental health crisis.
This role combines strategy and execution, and you’ll have significant autonomy to work across our existing leadership team as well as school district leaders, policymakers, clinicians, and potential partners. You would propose your own goals, workplan, and budget as needed.
WHO YOU ARE
- You have 2-4 years of experience in management consulting, private equity, or operating roles in healthcare or education technology
- You love to juggle many priorities, create your own structure, wrangle stakeholders, make decisions with imperfect information, and flex between tactical and strategic needs
- You’re excited to work at a high velocity in a rapidly-growing early-stage organization
- You’re a resourceful go-getter who finds creative ways to overcome roadblocks
- You have an excellent analytical mind and ability to make sense of complicated data
- Colleagues would describe you as energetic, optimistic, resilient, and empathetic
Please apply even if you don't meet all of the criteria. If your past experience doesn’t perfectly match the job description, we’d still love to hear from you. You may be a great fit!
WHAT YOU’LL DO
- Collaborate with the CEO to build and launch new partnerships with school districts, community organizations, and state agencies.
- Work with the CEO to establish Cartwheel as the thought leader in school-based mental health services. Develop a strategy for sharing Cartwheel’s innovative model in conferences, roundtables, publications, and public policy circles, and direct our leadership team to execute on this strategy.
- Collaborate with the COO and clinical leadership to develop and implement best practices in clinical operations, data & metrics, and care team management.
- Build a care team growth model to estimate our clinical staffing needs for the next 12 months, and work with our CEO to expand the team in line with this strategy.
- Spearhead other new company bets, with potential to become new lines of business. Lead ideation, market sizing, expert and user interviews, workplan development, and recommendations for the co-founders.
- Work directly with the co-founders on other business operations needs as they arise.
LOCATION: Remote with quarterly in-person team retreats and co-locating as needed in Boston or NYC, especially as we get to know each other.
START DATE: ASAP (latest by June 1)
COMPENSATION: The salary range for this position is $100,000 to $125,000.
