Plumber II

This position is located at Albemarle Correctional Institution in Badin, North Carolina. This is a medium custody, male prison facility. The primary purpose of this position is to install, maintain, alter, and repair plumbing systems and components. This position is responsible for the ongoing preventive maintenance and continuous repair of numerous water/piping systems throughout the facility, which includes mixing valves, domestic water systems, non-potable water systems, heating/cooling piping, hot water and cold-water pumps, and hot water boilers. The employee will install, repair and replace commodes, sinks, water coolers, water heaters, dishwasher, shower valves, water faucets, flush valves, and other related fixtures and equipment. They will also perform duties at the journeymen level of the plumbing trade. At times, this position will be expected to aid other maintenance staff in other areas of responsibility. The employee in this position will be cross-trained and able to perform or assist in the performance of other construction or maintenance related tasks as assigned. They will also be required to supervise skilled, semi-skilled, and unskilled labor (including offenders).

Documented working knowledge of the methods of installation and repair of plumbing systems.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and two years of experience in the repair, replacement or construction of piping systems; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Based on the nature of work performed, may require appropriate licensure by the governing board or commission.
