Duties & Responsibilities

The Veterans Legal Clinic at the Legal Services Center of Harvard Law School (LSC) seeks to hire a part-time Project Manager to help lead an innovative partnership that uses technology to improve access to benefits for Massachusetts low-income veterans and their families. The new technology at the center of the partnership employs an online guided interview platform to provide veterans and service organizations easy-to-understand information about eligibility for Massachusetts Veterans’ Service Benefits, also known colloquially as Chapter 115 Benefits. The Project Manager must be able to work independently and will be responsible for a diverse portfolio of activities, including serving as a liaison to local and state government veterans’ programs, interacting with researchers and consultants, developing curricula and conducting workshops and trainings about the technology tool for stakeholder groups, identifying and pursuing new opportunities, challenges, and strategies, bringing creativity to the project’s execution, documenting the project’s achievement of key benchmarks, and facilitating the project’s overall progress. The project is housed within the Veterans Legal Clinic. The Clinic trains Harvard Law School students and provides direct legal representation to low-income disabled veterans and their families. The Clinic maintains a broad docket of cases, including appeals involving federal and state veterans’ benefits, discharge upgrade and correction of military records cases, and estate planning matters. The Clinic practices before agencies, in state and federal court, and before Department of Defense tribunals. The Clinic also pursues various initiatives to improve access to justice for veterans and to improve the systems that serve the veterans community. The Project Manager will work closely with the Clinic’s Faculty Director and the Clinic’s Associate Director, as well as have opportunities to interact with other members of the Clinic team. The position represents a unique opportunity to join Harvard Law School’s Legal Services Center, to work in a dynamic public interest and clinical teaching law office, to serve the veterans community, and to hone project leadership skills. Salary is commensurate with experience. The position is for an initial two-year term. The possibility of extension depends on performance, the availability of funding, and project requirements.

Basic Qualifications

Bachelor's degree and minimum of three years relevant experience in technology, law, policy, education, human services, project implementation, community programming, and/or other relevant area, including some form of leadership experience. Education may count toward experience.

Additional Information

This is a part time position and term appointment, currently expected to extend for two years from start date. Eligible for full Harvard benefits.
