Job Summary:
In this role, the Senior Safety Specialist will lead safety initiatives, manage compliance with occupational health and safety regulations, and work to create a culture of safety at SEKISUI KYDEX. This role involves analyzing workplace environments, contributing to safety policies, conducting formal training sessions, informal coaching, serving as a site SME/consultant on all EH&S issues, and overseeing incident investigations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Safety Program Development
- Work with company EH&S manager to design and implement comprehensive safety programs and policies.
- Update and maintain safety protocols to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations and corporate policies.
- Compliance and Reporting
- Ensure adherence to agency (Occupational Safety and Health Administration, Department of Environmental Protection, etc) and corporate standards, guidelines, and other relevant regulations.
- Prepare and submit required reports and documentation.
- Risk Assessment and Management
- Conduct regular risk assessments and EH&S audits.
- Identify potential hazards and implement corrective actions.
- Develop strategies to mitigate risks and prevent accidents.
- Training and Education
- Develop and conduct EH&S training sessions for employees.
- Ensure all staff are informed of EH&S procedures and protocols.
- Promote a strong EH&S culture through ongoing education and communication.
- Incident Investigation
- Lead investigations of accidents, incidents, and near-misses.
- Analyze root causes and develop preventive measures.
- Maintain records of incidents and corrective actions taken.
- Emergency Preparedness
- Develop and implement emergency response plans.
- Conduct drills and ensure employees are prepared for emergency situations.
- Collaboration and Communication
- Work closely with management and staff to promote a safe working environment.
- Serve as a point of contact for all EH&S-related matters.
- Communicate EH&S policies and updates to all levels of the organization.
- Continuous Improvement
- Stay updated on industry best practices and regulatory changes.
- Recommend and implement improvements to EH&S programs and practices.
- Other duties as assigned
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Certifications: Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), or other relevant certifications are highly desirable.
- Minimum 8 years of experience in progressive EH&S related roles
- Strong capability to manage through influence and across functions
- Strong essential skills including high emotional intelligence
- Strong coordination and Project Management skills
- Engages others, builds relationships, and creates networks outside team. Checks in with different people to understand the bigger picture.
- Is curious, agile, engages in new experiences and looks for different perspectives
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering or related concentration
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in a EH&S-related role, preferably in a senior capacity
