GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES

This is a professional and highly technical position responsible for providing network administration for all Guilford County's Windows 2008/2012/2016 Servers, VMWare, Hyper-V and desktop operating systems including Windows 10 within a rapidly growing LAN/WAN environment.

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THIS CLASS

The employee in this class serves as a member of the Enterprise Technologies Team and performs server maintenance, application maintenance duties to support the departments and core infrastructure applications of Guilford County. This employee is responsible for problems that are normally deferred to the supervisory level usually dealing with the team's budget, status request on recent purchases, and servers, and serves as liaison for Enterprise Tech team to resolve any technical problems that may exist between Enterprise Tech team, and other teams/departments.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential Duties and Tasks

Install, test, maintain, and support complex operating system software, and packaged application systems.
Install, test, maintain, and support complex and varied PC/Server system software, and communication networks.
Address open problem tickets and work orders for Enterprise team on a daily basis.
Maintain various software packages.
Back up other Enterprise team members.
Maintain server operating systems/software/hardware.
Apply periodic preventive maintenance to PC/Server system software to provide enhancements and/or correct potential problems.
Perform problem determination and apply diagnostic maintenance to correct errors and resolve problems on PC/Server systems, supporting Enterprise team members.
Configure and administer network connected servers; ADS tree maintenance.
Perform problem determination and apply diagnostic maintenance to correct errors in system and application software.
Monitor, measure, and analyze the performance of PC/Server hardware and software products and modify appropriate parameters to provide performance improvements.
Provide technical advisory and problem determination support to application development, and user department.
Be on the On-Call rotation with other Enterprise team members after hours and on week-ends
Perform other duties as required or requested.

RECRUITMENT STANDARDS
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Ability to perform conceptual and detail planning to meet time objectives and to establish effective work schedules.
Knowledge of computer architecture and advanced data processing techniques and procedures; knowledge of new technologies in hardware, software, and Storage Area Networks.
Knowledge of various complex operating systems and networks.
Proficiency in using appropriate PC software packages, office support systems, and mid-range end user tools, Virtualization with Microsoft Hyper-V and VMWare.
Knowledge of new technologies in hardware, software, communications, and systems development.
Proficiency in file system concepts and file system configuration, reconfiguration, and repair
Considerable knowledge of appropriate diagnostic tools, standard utilities, communication protocols (eg. TCP/IP).
Knowledge of project management techniques, planning, and resource deployment
Good follow through and personal time management
Ability to communicate at the right level of detail in working with people at various levels.
Effective oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
Ability to establish and maintain good intra departmental and interdepartmental working relationships, customer service orientation.
Typical Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

BS Degree in Information Technology or a related field and two years' experience as a Network Administrator; OR, Two-year degree with four years' experience. Microsoft certification in Server 2008 Administration or higher preferred.
