Grounds Crew Seasonal Assistant/ Intern
The Greenville Drive is looking for a highly motivated and hardworking individual for the 2020 season. This position will assist the Head and Assistant Groundskeepers in maintaining and planning tasks required to achieve a safe, playable and aesthetically pleasing playing surface at Fluor Field. We are looking for someone who is currently enrolled in a 2- or 4-year sports turf program, or similar, though that is a recommendation not a requirement. We will give internship credit if needed.
Ideally, we would like the candidate to fill this position from March 1st, 2020 to October 1, 2020, but we will be flexible with the date range, depending on availability and within reason. Stipend pay will range from $1,500 to $2,000 a month depending on experience. Hours will vary throughout the season and we are flexible with time off, where appropriate. You will be provided with a Uniform (shirts and a hat). Housing is not provided but we can assist in finding suitable and affordable housing.
Facility and Organization:
The Greenville Drive is the Class A affiliate of the Boston Red Sox. Built as a replica of Fenway Park, Fluor Field is located in close proximity to downtown Greenville and has been the home to the Drive since their inaugural season in 2006. This is a sand-based field comprised of Latitude 36 Bermudagrass and over seeded with Rye, when applicable, and was recognized as the 2019 SAL Field of the Year. In the offseason of 2018/19, Fluor Field’s entire playing surface was completely renovated. Fluor Field hosts 70 Drive home games from April to September, as well as 30+ college games from late February to early April. Additionally, West End Events, the Drive’s non-gameday department, will utilize the field for some events during the off- season.
Candidates should have strong communication skills, a high attention to detail, and a tremendous desire to learn. Individuals should be very motivated and hard working. Baseball field experience is preferred, but not required. The applicant will be expected to lift at least 50 pounds and will also be expected to assist in duties as follows:
Maintain infield skin surface
Maintain mounds and plate areas
Perform moisture management on infield skin, mounds and plate
Execute fertilization and spray programs as appropriate
Manage irrigation (replace, adjust, repair, etc.)
Mow, edge and clean where needed on the playing surface
Adjust Mower reels and switch cutting units with verti-cutting units
Cultural Practices such as aerating, topdressing, sodding and verti-cutting
Must be willing to walk and stand for long periods of time, work long hours and weekends/holidays
