PRIMARY FUNCTION: To plan, design, implement and manage the University’s production and disaster recovery server environments to meet the needs of students, staff, and faculty as well as the Mission of Point Park University.
Bachelor’s degree (preferred) or equivalent experience in information science, computer science, or related plus 3 years (5 years, preferred) professional experience in a moderate (100 server) or larger sized environment.
Experience administering enterprise grade virtualization technologies and products to support network servers running all versions of Windows and Linux operating systems. VMware experience is preferred.
Ability to evaluate and recommend complete server environment overhauls including long-term capacity planning.
Solid understanding of SAN technologies
Strong knowledge of virtual switching and other networking technologies.
Experience maintaining Active Directory topologies including multi-domain forests.
Experience in server allocation from sizing analysis to automated deployment
Ability to develop and write documentation and guides for technical users.
Ability to script administrative tasks using PowerShell, Perl, VBScript or other languages
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Maintain and ensure the 24 x 7 operational readiness of the University’s entire server environment. This includes being on call or arranging for an alternate person to be on call at all times. Ensure data integrity and availability through stringent disaster recovery processes.
Responsible for the administration of the University’s virtual infrastructure and servers. Includes design, implementation, administration and maintenance of hardware and software.
Monitor the University’s server environment performance and capacity. Use experience, judgment, and analysis data to plan to meet the current business need and account for its future growth over time.
Manage, maintain, and improve the University’s Active Directory forest, Office 365 environment, and other miscellaneous applications
Assist network engineers with installs, upgrades, and ongoing maintenance of server components
Provide level 2/3 support for system issues escalated by the IT Help Desk. Work with vendors to resolve complex problems.
Other duties as assigned.
Occasional exposure to objectionable conditions or variations such as those found in variable weather conditions or light industrial settings.
Mobility within the office. Ability to walk, sit, stand and climb stairs. Ability to use hands and fingers, to handle office equipment, records and files. Occasionally required to reach with arms and hands, and to stoop, kneel or crouch. Vision abilities required by this job include the ability to read and discern written errors on paper and electronic documents. Ability to talk and hear. Ability to lift up to 40 pounds.
