The Environmental Specialist is responsible for implementing and maintaining specific areas of the Environmental program areas (air, water, hazardous waste and chemical management) for GE Power to ensure that all federal, state, and local regulatory requirements are met. This position will provide support to the EHS Leader and site Operations in maintaining compliance, and providing competent technical advice to ensure EHS management system requirements are met.
Essential Responsibilities:As the Environmental Specialist, you will:
Be responsible for supporting air, waste and water media compliance for the Schenectady site
Provide technical advice and direction on environmental, health, or safety (EHS) challenges and issues at the Schenectady site for assigned program areas
Support site permitting and emissions inventory calculations for air (and/or other media as assigned)
Support reporting and licensing / permitting efforts to ensure regulatory compliance, including RCRA, EPCRA, SPDES, and Title V
Develop and maintain excellent relationships with local regulatory agencies
Implement / modify EHS programs and procedures to ensure compliance
Maintain in-depth knowledge of existing, new and proposed environmental regulations for assigned program areas
Develop and lead training programs for assigned program areas
Provide project management as necessary to ensure regulatory compliance
Modify and implement compliance tracking programs and record keeping systems to assure compliance
Provide EHS guidance and support as required for all elements of EHS Management
Evaluate facility EHS conditions, assess risks and develop appropriate corrective-action plans
Track site progress against EHS metrics and goals
Participate in EHS compliance and program audits
Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Health, Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering or related technical discipline from an accredited university or college
Minimum of 2 years of experience in Environmental Health and Safety (EHS)
Experience with Gensuite applications or equivalent
Experience / general competence with Microsoft Office Suite tools (Word, PowerPoint, Excel)
Environmental permitting and regulatory compliance experience
Experience with environmental applications
Proven ability to negotiate successfully with regulatory agencies
Strong interpersonal and influencing skills
Ability to communicate cross-functionally and work independently
Open communication style with the ability to develop team relationships
Strong technical writing skills
