Your day to day
As Network Engineering Technical Advisor assigned to the Global Network Engieering team, this position will have significant responsibility for the creation, development, and implementation of global network and voice strategies for IHG. The Technical Advisor is utilized as the top level technical resource for complex network and voice infrastructure/environments. Technical Advisors support the department’s by providing and implementing technical solutions for WAN, Data Center (hosted, public and private cloud based), corporate LAN, global voice, global video and corporate WiFi. Ensure the development and implementation of company wide short and long term strategies for state of the art multi-user, multi-functional systems. Provide expertise in conducting project reviews to ensure solutions meet business objectives that optimize best use of network infrastructure and accessibility of data. Provide expert technical direction, support, review, and training to appropriate technical staff.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Collaborates with leaders, business analysts, project managers, IT architects, technical leads and other developers, along with internal customers, to understand requirements and develop needs according to business requirements
Facilitate the engineering, design and implementation of the network infrastructure projects on a variety of platforms. Develop and support appropriate complex documentation according to established IT standards. Strong contributor to roadmap definition, technical architecture and ongoing maintenance thereof.
Develop strategies for the continued planning, scheduling, and coordination of LAN/WAN/Data Center and other infrastructure for reliability, scalability, availability and maintainability and monitor results in order to take or assign required corrective action.
Advise on standards for hardware, software and configuration management. Ensure that departmental standards are documented, designed, distributed and updated on a regular basis for assigned network infrastructure development planning, product performance, support and monitoring.
Provide technical consultation in new project development and enhancement of existing network infrastrucutre; participate in structured walkthroughs and technical reviews.
Act as advisor to Sr. level IT management concerning strategic decisions concerning legacy and new technology
Responsible for initiating and leading technical discussions, training other resources and communicating to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Participate in the design, engineering, implementation, deployment, documentation, testing, and ongoing capacity planning of infrastructure solutions (hardware, software and systems configuration solutions).
Participates in proofs of concept for technology solutions.
What we need from you
Bachelor's or Master's Degree in a relevant field of work or an equivalent combination of education and work related experience.
10+ years progressive work related experience in archtiture, engineering, design, administration, programming and support of all networking technologies, including LAN, WAN, Application Delivery (Load balancer), Firewall technology, multi data center traffic management (GTMs). Expertise and experience to include, but not limited to technologies including Voice, Video, Conferencing, Data, WiFi, Wired, etc. with demonstrated mastery or technical and business knowledge and understanding of multiple disciplines/processes related to the position. Typically leads/mentors less experienced staff or complex projects in area of expertise.
Technical Skills and Knowledge
Demonstrated knowledge of network and infrastructure architectures and development methodologies.
Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of structured analysis and technical design techniques.
Demonstrated skills in evaluating telecom products and their adaptability. Ability to negotiate with the carriers in deploying appropriate network technologies. Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
Demonstrated proficiency in establishing and maintaining a high level of customer trust and confidence in the networks engineering team's knowledge of the customers' business needs. Demonstrated proficiency in adapting to rapidly changing technology and apply it to business needs. Demonstrated project management experience in organizing, planning and executing large-scale projects from conception through implementation. Demonstrated ability to lead, direct and influence less experienced personnel in the creation of efficient and scalable databases. Demonstrated effective verbal and written communication skills for the purpose of providing information to clients, vendors, senior management and staff.
Specialized Technical Skills – (experience in one or more disciplines required)
LAN/WAN Industry standard hardware, operating systems, routed and routing technologies;
Proficiency in MPLS deployment, management of VRFs and internet technologies.
Knowledge/Expereince in deployment and managmenet of VoIP solutions, video conferencing (including webex) and WiFi network solutions
Deep rooted network management, troubleshooting skills
Application Delivery Methodologies including industrial strength load balancing technologies (F5 – Viprion; NetScaler)
Multi Data Center load management and traffic management (Global Traffic Management)
Knowledge of Firewall technologies (Cisco, CheckPoint, Palo Alto)
Private Cloud and Public Cloud offerings and technologies (vBlock knowledge)
Database Administration for vendor applications (i.e. Oracle, DB2);Telecom products evalautions and carrier management experience;Knoweldge of SDN, SD WAN
