The NAMI Information, Support & Education team is looking for a computer-savvy, creative and dedicated intern to assist with a variety of projects key to the success of our NAMI signature education programs. One key task will be to assist with the translation of program materials from English to Spanish.
Intern opportunities and responsibilities
The intern will work on a multi-disciplinary team that supports classes, presentations and support groups for individuals with mental health conditions and for their loved ones. He or she will learn about non-profit development, peer-led mental health programs and the technical skills needed to support them.
Specific duties include translating documents from English to Spanish, developing web content from NAMI program materials, updating existing presentations/documents/online resources and supporting training and convention planning.
NAMI is the nation's largest grassroots organization focused on improving the lives of millions of Americans affected by mental illness. The NAMI Information, Support & Education team supports ten signature programs that are offered throughout the U.S., with limited programing in Canada, Mexico and Italy.
Time frame: Spring-Summer 2018 (15-20 hours per week, 8-12 weeks)
Exact days and times are flexible to match the intern's schedule.
Internships are unpaid but we provide metro benefits. The majority of the work will be on-site at the NAMI office in Arlington, VA. The office is Metro and handicapped accessible.
Bilingual (English and Spanish)
Strong writing and verbal communications skills in both English and Spanish
Ability to translate materials from English to Spanish
Strong organizational and time management skills
Proficient computer skills and working knowledge of Microsoft Office
Interest in mental health
