Full Job Description
This position is for a Chief Engineer supporting a development program at the Orlando Missiles and Fire Control facility. This person will perform both technical and programmatic oversight duties. The position
is responsible for supporting the program area in meeting all commitments including technical
performance, schedule, and cost for both internal (e.g.: IRAD, B&PE, etc.) and external contractual
commitments. Ensure that technical standards and requirements are met. Ensures that PDP is implemented and executed. Reviews the status of IRAD project and program contract cost, schedule, and manpower needs to ensure they achieve mission success. Implements the technical vision of the Line Of Business. Screens IRADs prior to submission to Business Development Director. Leverages technologies within MFC and LM to reduce overlap and consolidate efforts. Coordinates with other Chief Engineers to coordinate efforts within
LMMFC. Ensures manpower requirements are accurate and meet both business and technical
objectives and presents a monthly executive manpower overview. Serves as the technical conscience of the program. Reviews rewards, recognitions, promotions recommended by the program and forwards on for action. Implements strategies and plans to inject new college hires into program areas. Periodically assesses overall job/skills match and suggests possible personnel rotation opportunities to create cross-training of skills. Reviews preparation of engineering portion of proposals and estimates for technical feasibility and viability. Reviews white papers for technical and procedural accuracy. Verifies that technical metrics are collected and reported in accordance with PDP. Prepares technical presentations that will be used at the Continuous Improvement Board (CIB) and other reviews as required. Support and present at customer meetings. Attend reviews of subcontractors and potential teammates to assess technical competency. Schedules and conducts Independent Technical Reviews as required. Verifies that normal technical reviews are conducted and that the right level of support is provided by applicable entities. Conducts Mission Success, Test Readiness Reviews and Failure Review Boards on the program. Reconciles conflicting viewpoints on best designs in cases of major magnitude of importance and renders decisions.
Minimum of bachelor’s degree in engineering from an accredited college or university, with professional experience and specialized training commensurate with assignment. Candidate must have ability to obtain Secret Security Clearance.
The successful candidate must have significant multi-discipline technical leadership experience and be able to manage a highly complex technical project with little oversight. The candidate must be able to take general guidance from leadership and strategically integrate it into the project's business rhythm. The candidate must be able to manage a budget, forecast resources, and develop close working relationships with associated
IPT leads and functional managers. The successful candidate must possess a proven ability to lead all aspects of the technical efforts associated with new development. The individual must have the experience, drive, and demonstrated capability to lead a team of engineers of varying disciplines to provide technical excellence and mission success. The position requires excellent leadership skills and demonstration of all the tenants
of Full Spectrum Leadership in previous assignments. This position requires effective task organization and
communication skills. Excellent oral and written communication skills are a must. The successful candidate will be required to communicate technical status and issues internally to program leadership, technical leadership and functional leadership as well as externally to the customer.
An advanced degree in engineering from an accredited college or university is desired. Prior experience at Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control is highly desired. Experience in missile or fire control system design, development and testing is desired. Working knowledge of dealing with subcontractors and subcontract technical management is a plus. Experience in chairing or presenting at technical reviews and boards is desired.
