Job Overview

This individual will support the communications team at our Colorado Springs office with a critical focus on our existing health care locations in Colorado Springs and southern Colorado and the new hospital under construction in Colorado Springs. This position will directly assist the local Communications team and will have dual reporting relationships with the manager of Media Relations and the director of Internal Communications at our Anschutz Campus in Aurora, Colo. As we expand our presence in Colorado Springs and beyond, supporting our efforts with local media and community representatives will be critical. In addition, this position will be instrumental in ensuring our team members in southern Colorado are engaged and their communication needs are met. He/she should possess an eagerness to learn new skills and techniques and apply them to a diverse range of communications initiatives, both internally and externally.

This dual-functioning position will assist the Colorado Springs Communication team with external and internal communications.

External communications responsibilities include supporting the Colorado Springs Communications team by assisting with news media requests for Children’s Colorado in Colorado Springs and southern Colorado across local and regional print, radio and broadcast media. Assist with content to prepare experts, including physicians and executives for media requests. Assist with media support to staff and families as needed. And assist with organizing and creating content (photo, video and written) for external purposes, including external presentations, media requests, social media and more.

Internal communications responsibilities include assisting the Colorado Springs communications team with day-to-day internal communications needs for Southern Colorado team members and executives. Included in this is the coordination and writing of two weekly e-newsletters and intranet content. Assist with internal communications questions and requests, such as developing communications plans, emails, briefings and articles. Assist with organizing and creating content (photo, video and written) for internal purposes, including meetings, events, crises and more.

Ensure Children’s Colorado protects and promotes its image in a proper, coordinated and consistent manner
Executes specific tasks against a larger communications plan
Manages own project workflow while coordinating with project teams and management of schedules, assignments, requirements and goals

Media Relations Specialist:
Assist Communications team responding to media requests
Assist in writing media advisories and press releases
Assist with taking photos and video to share with media
Collaborate on press, community, partner and VIP events
Support Colorado Springs Communications team while serving as a part of the larger Media Relations team at the Anschutz Medical Campus
Measure work effectiveness and track metrics for success

Internal Communications Specialist:
Assist with the editorial planning, creation and distribution of two weekly Colorado Springs team member e-newsletters
Write for all internal communications team managed vehicles to support the organization’s priorities and initiatives for Colorado Springs and southern Colorado
Assist in planning and executing internal events and initiatives unique to these locations
Work with communications specialists on presentations for internal staff, including subject matter research and stakeholder interviews
Support Colorado Springs Communications team while serving as a part of the larger Internal Communication team at the Anschutz Medical Campus
Measure work effectiveness and track metrics for success

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Journalism, Public Relations, Communications, English or related field
1-3 years of experience in agency/studio/corporate environment (internship experience OK)
Proficiency with relevant technology, software applications and writing in AP Style
Strong examples that showcase work experience from school, internship and/or job experience
Able to work independently as well as collaboratively with seasoned communications teams
Professional work ethic and a team player
Must demonstrate initiative and be proactive in seeking new opportunities and solutions
Experience working in the Colorado Springs and southern Colorado market a plus
