Our Art Team is seeking a strong leader who can inspire and elevate the Artists to deliver their best work and have fun while doing it! In this creative role, the _Director of Art, Illustration and Animation_ , will own the creative vision and will be responsible for creating and maintaining the visual style, technical specification and quality of illustration and animation. One will actively ensure all deliverables align with the delivery schedule for Pearson Learning Services K-12 product family.

You will provide thought leadership and collaborate closely with a cross-discipline Creative Design and User Experience Teams as well as a variety of business leaders, technology leaders, product design leads, and other key stakeholders. Your exceptional team management abilities include overall control of planning, staffing, budgeting, managing expense priorities, and recommending and implementing changes to methods.

**This exciting opportunity is ideally located at our Chandler, AZ or Boston, MA office site. Additional remote locations may also be considered.**

**Here is what you will get to do: **

+ Collaborate with the in-house Development Team, Creative Leadership and Partners/vendors at the start of the project to determine and develop the illustration and animation - evaluating and negotiating proposed ideas throughout the pre-build process to ensure they are producible within project parameters and budget

+ Represent the art, illustration and animation function at the strategic level. Ensure that appropriate communication flows freely, such that the team feels heard, represented, and generally in the loop. Escalate and resolve art team needs, issues, and concerns in a responsive, effective, and visible manner

+ Attend meetings early in the process (Product Design pitches, art, animatic reviews, etc.) to understand the Product UX and Design direction and requirements prior to illustration and animation beginning to ensure that the creative vision is achieved across the products

+ Act decisively to remove roadblocks and smooth out interdisciplinary issues

+ Manage and lead a group of talented artists and animators to deliver high quality, on-time deliverables, accounting for on-the-fly nature of program needs and changes as they occur

+ Maintain an inspiring and mindful creative culture, where experimentation, feedback and iteration are encouraged. Foster knowledge sharing and creative exercises

+ Provide career development and growth for artists; build technical skills

+ Plan for the best and most efficient deployment of art department resources

+ Art expert and act as "go to" with in-depth knowledge of art, illustration, and animation best practices and standards

+ Drive and document art and creative assets standards and library across products

+ Drive knowledge management to ensure open & clear lines of communication of art and creative process and ideas

+ Lead detailed project planning, budgeting, and team capacity planning in collaboration with cross-functional groups

+ Facilitate success of direct reports in meeting their (and their team's) goals by supporting them in turning their strengths into higher performance, and by helping them improve on their weaknesses in a way that encourages innovation and creativity, while establishing and codifying best practice and process


**Required Skills/Knowledge/Abilities: **

+ Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) required; Master’s degree in relevant field a plus

+ 10-15 years of production or animation experience

+ 8 years of experience in an art management/leadership role

+ Internal development team experience

+ Experience managing a team of illustrators and animators and delivering projects in a large scale, complex enterprise environment

+ Experience on a full AAA development cycle

+ Ability to manage multiple projects and an ability to prioritize and organize to meet tasks and deadlines

+ Excellent verbal and written communication skills, especially as they relate to presenting, articulating and defending research and art decisions

+ Strong attention to detail and outstanding organizational skills

+ Excellent verbal and written communication skills

+ Strong leader and team player who genuinely enjoys working with and inspiring others

+ Proven ability to work in a high-pressure environment under tight deadlines

Additional Plus:
+ Experience within the Animation discipline and game industry highly preferred!
