Alarm.com seeks an Associate General Counsel to join its team. Reporting to the Deputy General Counsel, this newly created position will work with departments across the company to provide advice on a wide range of legal matters with a focus on risk management, litigation, and regulatory issues, as well as general commercial and corporate matters, and will supervise outside counsel as necessary in various areas. The legal team supports all aspects of the company’s business operations, including commercial relationships, intellectual property, employment, litigation, securities, financial reporting and strategic activities. The ideal candidate will be enthusiastic about learning new things and contributing to the growth of the department and the company as a whole.
The Associate General Counsel will be responsible for and involved in a wide range of legal and risk management matters. Key responsibilities include:
Advise and provide guidance on legal and risk management issues across the company, including risk assessments, product and commercial matters, compliance and regulatory matters, privacy and security, ethics and internal compliance investigations
Develop and drive policies and procedures designed to enhance regulatory compliance and business standards and support the company’s strategic objectives
Advise and provide support on litigation and pre-litigation strategies and responses; manage various aspects of claims and litigation as matters arise
Advise and provide guidance on legal issues relating to risk management, compliance, privacy, security, and regulatory matters
Work closely with legal, executive, sales, and other business teams to provide general legal advice and support and assist in scaling legal and business processes
Supervise and coordinate with outside counsel as necessary
J.D. from a leading law school
Membership in or eligibility for admission to the Virginia Bar (incl. Corporate Counsel admission)
Minimum of 8 years relevant experience in an in-house or large law firm environment, with software or technology industry experience and public company experience a plus
Familiarity with a wide range of legal matters including risk management, litigation, and compliance issues; understanding of regulatory frameworks including U.S. and international product and technology rules and regulations
Experience handling complex litigation, including commercial, IP, and regulatory matters
Ability to work under pressure, juggle multiple projects with competing priorities, meet deadlines, and adapt to change within a rapidly growing company
Team player with a high level of professionalism and commitment to developing strong relationships with colleagues, internal clients, and business teams across the enterprise
Experience with, and enthusiasm for, process improvement and problem solving
Superior interpersonal and written and oral communication skills
Proven organizational, analytical, and negotiation skills with exceptional attention to detail
Highly skilled in standard office software and able to adapt quickly to new technologies
