DIRECTOR OF CLINICAL CHEMISTRY
The Department of Pathology at UMass Memorial Medical Center and University of Massachusetts Medical School is seeking a clinical pathology faculty member with expertise in Clinical Chemistry. UMass Memorial Medical Center is the premier health care provider in Central Massachusetts and is the teaching hospital of the University of Massachusetts. Responsibilities include medical and scientific oversight of clinical chemistry and point-of-care throughout a multi-campus hospital system and coordination of care throughout the major academic health sciences center of Central Massachusetts, and may include regulatory oversight of one or more CLIA-certified laboratories. The UMass Hospital Laboratories perform over 7 million tests per year, have over 200 FTEs, and have recently created a Molecular Virology Laboratory for high-throughput testing during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The candidate should have an M.D. or Ph.D., relevant training in Clinical Chemistry, and the ability to interact interprofessionally with individuals and teams across departments at UMass and in our partner reference laboratory at Quest Diagnostics. Interest in additional areas, including point-of-care diagnostic testing, molecular pathology, histocompatibility, quality science, laboratory stewardship and utilization, and informatics would be considered favorably. In addition, the faculty member will play an essential role in our residency training program and medical school teaching, and have the opportunity to contribute to or establish a clinical, translational, or basic research program.
The Department of Pathology has over thirty faculty members and a highly regarded AP/CP residency training program with sixteen residents. The main campus is in Worcester, Massachusetts in an area with abundant natural beauty, a myriad of excellent school systems, superb restaurants, and innumerable cultural offerings. Worcester is centrally located in New England, within an hour of Boston and Providence, and a short drive from the coastal beauty of Cape Cod and the scenic Berkshire Mountains.
