Florida Atlantic University is seeking an Associate/Assistant Librarian, Boca Raton, FL.
Reporting to the Head, Instruction & Engagement Services Department and working closely with the Assistant Dean for Public Services, the position of Associate/ Assistant Librarian provides introductory and in-depth orientation to library services and resources for students and faculty using exhibitions, public programming, classes, online tutorials, social networking, and other innovative techniques to engage the community. Utilizing a proactive, user-centric service model, the mission of the department is to engage actively and collaborate with the FAU community and support its instructional and research needs in traditional and innovative ways. The Associate/ Assistant Librarian participates in selection of library materials, liaison with academic and student support units, reference (both virtual and in-person), and instruction. Working closely with the Broward County Public Library in Fort Lauderdale, this position also provides services to FAU faculty and students based in Fort Lauderdale through face-to-face and remote interactions.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Actively contribute to innovative library engagement, providing instruction for courses, workshops, and programs.
Participate in FAU programs and events that promote student recruitment, academic preparedness, and graduation.
Participate in the on-call reference service model, with assigned hours for the statewide Ask a Librarian online reference service.
Develop subject/discipline promotional materials that effectively communicate the library’s resources to the community utilizing LibGuides, online tutorials, and other media.
Work closely with library colleagues on community outreach and development activities.
Actively engage with university and library colleagues to ensure current collections meet the needs of the FAU community and support the University’s and Libraries’ mission and strategic plans.
Participate in academic liaison activities in assigned subject areas, including support for scholarly communication and awareness and use of open educational resources.
Coordinate with the staff of the Broward County Main Public Library in Fort Lauderdale to satisfy the research and instructional needs of FAU faculty and students on the Fort Lauderdale campus.
Contribute to the development and strengthening of a positive view of the FAU Libraries as an active partner in the University’s educational and research mission and assist with promoting the Libraries’ needs and services.
Investigate opportunities to carry out, publish, and present original research and projects that are related to the area of expertise.
Serve on appropriate Libraries, University, regional or national committees.

MLS or MLIS from an ALA-accredited institution or equivalent by the time of application.
Minimum one to two years’ experience in an academic library.

Evidence of excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
Evidence of ability to use information technologies for effective communication and work productivity.

Experience delivering reference in an academic library in all formats (face-to-face, chat, email, consultations, and through other technologies.
Experience in teaching and facilitating the learning of individuals from diverse backgrounds and levels of readiness.
Experience in integrating diversity, pluralism, and inclusion into library practices, or equivalent transferrable skills.
Ability to analyze and adapt to change in an ever-evolving and rapidly growing institution.
Demonstrated commitment to lifelong learning and to contributing to the profession through scholarly research and communication and significant service.
Experience working in a multi-campus environment or in multi-institutional consortia.
A record of scholarship and contributions to the profession through peer-reviewed publications in librarianship or conference presentations at national or international library and/or related conferences.
A record of professionally relevant service within a university or college, a state, a region, the nation, or internationally.
Knowledge of current trends in instruction and outreach relevant to academic libraries.
Experience using learning management systems, preferably Canvas.
