General Summary of Duties:

Under the supervision of the Manager Front Desk/Registration, this position schedules appointments for patients, provides reception services, answers phones, accurately and comprehensively collect and verifies demographic and financial information from patients and/or their representatives in a sensitive and timely manner. Verifies patient insurance coverage with Third Party Payors and determines eligibility by utilizing appropriate technology.

The Financial Registration Clerk will research and obtain all the necessary information which will include calling customer service and insurance companies: inputting the data into various systems and assists in coordination of the flow of patients through front desk registration and into the clinical area. Provide excellent customer service to both internal and external customers. Strive for the goal of achieving a positive experience for the patient. Contributes to the team work within and between departments.


  • Collects on. and verifies demographic and financial information from patients
  • Ensure timely and accurate process of patient registration before scheduled provider appointment.
  • Work across departments on matters concerning registration, doctor visits, information gathering and service delivery.
  • Schedule patients for appointment via telephone or in person.
  • Make Appointment Reminder calls.
  • Answer phones, forward calls or take messages as indicated.
  • Greet patients and visitors and respond to their requests.


  • Responsible for the collection of Self-Pay fees.
  • Maintains database systems on payments and account transactions.
  • Provides backup to the Front Desk Services as needed
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Registration and Front Desk Supervisor.
  • Ensure that patients proceed through reception, registration and into the clinical area in a timely manner.
  • Keep patients informed of wait status.
  • Ensure visitors arrive at the appropriate location.

Perform Clerical and Other Duties

  • Print schedules for next day and distribute to appropriate departments.
  • Open/Close Switchboard depending on work schedule.
  • Other duties as assigned by Supervisor.

Minimum Position Qualifications

  • Associate degree with at least 4 years of equivalent work
  • Knowledge of third party and Medicaid coverage is a plus.
  • Working knowledge of computer systems, EPIC EMR system, strong oral and written communications skills are essential.
