Chicago based: Technical Account Manager

A ground floor opportunity, the Technical Sales Engineer will be on the front line with customer consultation, rapport building, creating opportunities, and achieving the company sales goals with food safety decision makers. The ideal candidate will bring a demonstrated record of accomplishment meeting and exceeding goals as a Sales professional. The Accounts Manager is primarily responsible for achieving Sales objectives by successfully promoting and selling CERTUS proprietary systems. Core components of this position include:

Work Location: Remote Position to report to: Director of Sales

Duties and Responsibilities

General:

  • Achieve target revenue, profit and growth targets established by the company on an annual and quarterly basis
  • Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related business objectives of the company
  • Travel and maintain accounts within assigned geographic territory
  • Attend quarterly sales meetings at CERTUS office in Chicago as needed

Sales Activity:

  • Build and maintain customer relationships to promote sales of CERTUS and partner food safety market offerings
  • Prospect for new customers utilizing a wide variety of methods and approaches, including social selling, leveraging personal networks, and via industry alliances if needed
  • Develop strategic account relationships at all levels to facilitate sales growth
  • Prepare and deliver sales proposals/presentations and follow up with key decision makers
  • Conduct new customer meetings, either in person or via web, each quarter and submit standard meeting reports
  • Manage entire sales process from initial inquiry, quote, samples, negotiations, order confirmations, coordinating delivery and payment terms, final acceptance and payments to vendors and from customers with approval from Manager
  • Conduct technical trainings of products to enable the customer to use the product to the fullest extent
  • Answer technical support questions from customers and troubleshoot equipment
  • Resolve customer issues by investigating, developing solutions, and making recommendations to management

Planning:

  • Regularly meet with Sales Director to review weekly sales activity and status of prospective customers, sales funnel, and CRM use
  • Update Road Map/calendar to show weekly and monthly plans
  • Plan quarterly sales activity, including targets, travel plans, and trade shows with input from Sales Director to achieve agreed upon goals
  • Develop business plans for each key account assigned; monitor and report progress regularly
  • Develop a territory plan of action to establish and maintain CERTUS success in the territory

Manage Sales Information and Professional Development:

  • Utilize CRM by providing information that is accurate, complete, and timely (account profiling, contact profiling, opportunity tracking/record keeping and activities)
  • Active networking in industry organizations and circles
  • Maintain awareness of supply and demand in Food Safety technologies pathogen detection systems, changing trends, economic indicators, and competitors
  • Expand professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies
  • Monitor competition on pricing, products, new products, delivery schedules, merchandising techniques, etc.

Education Required:

Bachelor’s Degree with a concentration in one or more of the following areas,

  • Food Microbiology
  • Business Administration

Skills Required:

  • Confident self-starter with the ability to build upon directed sales strategy
  • Passionate about food safety with the willingness to help develop sales collateral
  • Strong commitment to building and maintaining team momentum in regard to sales and incentives
  • Strong business etiquette and interpersonal communication inside and outside the organization
  • Fluent in English (reading, writing and spoken), other language skills a plus
  • Willing and able to travel 60% of the month – typically 1 to 2 weeks per month
  • PC literate (Word/Excel/PowerPoint/Outlook)
  • Able to articulate technical applications, processes, features, and immunoassay detection results
  • Able to perform rudimentary service and troubleshooting on the CERTUS pathogen detection unit
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work in a small group
  • Effective time management and productivity
  • Strong business etiquette, interpersonal communication
  • Coordinate and manage information exchange between customers and partner companies
  • Excellent organizational and record-keeping skills

Physical and Mental Requirements:

  • The ability to travel by car, air, boat, train and bus both domestically and internationally
  • Able to independently move and/or lift the heavy packages (up to 50-lbs)
  • The ability to walk, stand, turn, climb, kneel, sit for extended periods, reach, lift, carry, push, talk, hear and see are basic requirements
  • The ability to use an office phone, cell-phone, fax, photocopier, computer keyboard, laptop and other electronic business tools and related software
  • Mental requirements include, but are not limited to, the ability to concentrate, take initiative, cope with stress, adapt to and stay alert in a business environment and use independent judgment to accomplish all Duties and Responsibilities and Goals
  • Primarily in an office environment with extended periods of sitting at a desk
  • Periodic evening teleconferences or videoconferences with Asia requiring shift change or over-time at company discretion
