Job Description:

Antheia Lab Operations department is looking for an experienced biology lab technician with lab equipment maintenance and facilities management experience. The laboratory operations mission is to support, supply, and improve the efficiency of work and safety for our scientists. A successful candidate will be proactive, observant, detail oriented, and a clear communicator. Experience in a similar lab setting (microbiology or fermentation lab) in either an academic or industrial lab is preferred. More importantly, a “can do attitude” and the ability to wear many hats are qualities a successful candidate must have to thrive in this position. The primary responsibility will be to support all aspects of facilities and equipment maintenance and repair. This includes hands-on maintenance and troubleshooting of general lab equipment (cold storage, incubators, shakers, etc) and automation equipment (liquid handler robots, colony pickers, etc) as well as coordinating vendors on repairs, and maintaining PM and service schedules of equipment. Facilities responsibilities include coordinating with vendors on HVAC, plumbing, and electrical issues. In addition, this position will be cross-trained to help with basic lab upkeep such as glassware and waste autoclaving, buffer and media prep, and receiving of deliveries. There are opportunities for additional on-the-job training and career advancement.

Responsibilities include:

  • Troubleshooting and light repair of general lab equipment such as refrigerator, freezers, autoclave, dishwasher, centrifuge, etc to minimize downtime.
  • Interface with R&D staff to understand equipment needs and concerns.
  • Maintenance and troubleshooting of automation equipment such as liquid handler robots, colony pickers, etc.
  • Train staff on robotics instrument and write and distribute SOPs for key procedures on shared equipment
  • Assist and/or direct external maintenance and construction contractors.
  • Coordinate equipment repairs, new equipment purchases and installations.
  • Perform routine preventative maintenance of equipment.
  • Occasional basic handyman duties including carpentry.
  • Maintain records of equipment repair and preventative maintenance.
  • Washing and autoclaving glassware, pipette tips, tubes, 96-well plates etc.
  • Preparing liquid media, agar plates, and 96-well plates.
  • Supporting fermentation operations through supply chain and chemical inventory management, media preparation, weekly tank turnover, etc.
  • Receiving of lab deliveries.
  • Support for occasional lab operations event planning.


  • Bachelor’s degree or 2+ years of college, preferably studying biology, chemistry, biochemistry, chemical engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience in a biology lab with liquid handling robotics, a plus
  • 1-3+ years facilities technician experience in either an academic lab, internship, or industry
  • Sound troubleshooting skills and the capacity to resolve problems
  • Ability to follow written protocols and attention to details.
  • Excellent customer service skills. Collaborative style needed with the ability to maintain professionalism at times even under stressful situations
  • Computer competent.
  • Physically able to lift 40 pounds or more.
