The Forest Resource Analyst provides biometric and statistical support for the Southern Timberlands managed by Green Diamond Management Company, including inventory design and growth & yield modeling. Other responsibilities include inventory and analytical support for acquisitions, building long-term harvest scheduling models, data analysis and analytical support for other regions.
Essential Functions: (other duties may be assigned)
Inventory, Growth & Yield Modelling and Harvest Planning
Review potential growth and yield models.
Analyze cut out information to identify trends and bias.
Generate yields for long term planning models, reviewing for unreasonable growth projections and product mix.
Oversee collection of southern inventory data and establish check cruise procedures.
Develop long term harvest plans for southern timberlands and providing presentations for use in communicating model outputs to management.
Assist in building shapefiles for use in spatial harvest planning.
Data Management & Analysis
Complete the annual growth for standing southern inventory.
Review management data and identify data integrity issues and needs.
Responsible for the narrative, supporting tables and charts in the annual inventory report.
Statistical & Cost Benefit Analysis
Provide analytic and statistical support as assigned.
Review literature for new or updated timber management practices.
Assist in the development of efficient sampling designs to quantify standing forest inventory across Green Diamonds ownership.
Improve the cruise/cut out comparison processes.
Acquisitions & Dispositions
Complete harvest plans and analysis of upcoming acquisitions.
Complete validation of seller’s inventory data and generating reasonable growth and yield projections for the property.
Assist with due diligence and initial property review of potential acquisitions.
Design and budget an inventory verification process.
Support data transition into Green Diamonds data management systems.
Strategic Business Planning
Provide support to business development efforts by providing the data needed to model financial results.
Knowledge, skills and abilities required:
Bachelor’s Degree in Forestry or related field.
Minimum five (5) years of related experience in harvest scheduling, forest biometrics, quantitative silviculture or inventory management and design.
Programming skills in higher level computer languages is desired (R,Basic, C++).
Strong skills in Microsoft Office (Excel, Access and Word).
Working knowledge of Arc GIS software.
Strong statistical background in experimental design, linear regression and summary statistics that could be used to optimize and review current forest management practices.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills including understanding business needs, generating alternatives and evaluating quantitative and qualitative factors to select alternatives.
Effective interpersonal skills and the ability to work with people at all levels of the organization.
Ability to foster and support a diverse, ethical and respectful workplace.
Ability to share knowledge and participate in coaching and mentoring others.
Ability to be adaptable, tolerant of ambiguities and open to change.

Advanced degree (MS) in Forestry or Resource Management.
Field experience in the wood products industry.
Proven analytical ability.
Physical Requirements/Work Environment
Normal office environment with moderate noise levels, occasional lifting of up to 25 lbs., regular walking, sitting, bending, twisting, standing and reaching.
Regular trips out into operations to meet with employees and maintain visibility, requiring ability to drive and walk in/on forested areas, across uneven terrain, and unpaved roads.
Ability to perform consistent work on PC.
