The Harris Communication Systems segment is seeking a highly motivated, team oriented Software Manager well versed in the design, development and validation of complex software defined radio based communications systems.
This individual will work in a team environment to manage the development of systems that require the design, implementation, and integration of embedded software and firmware solutions.
As a manager of the staff, the successful candidate will demonstrate initiative in the efficient development of complex systems throughout the product lifecycle – from requirements through integration and test. Additionally, this person must be highly skilled at working with geographically distributed development teams. The successful candidate will be expected to possess a thorough understanding of technical challenges including both the development methods as well as enforcing organizational processes to ensure quality. Experience with embedded C/C++ software development expected. Experience with government certification of engineering designs is also desired.
The responsibilities and duties of this position include but are not limited to:
Perform project planning, tracking and oversight activities in a CMMI Level 3 process oriented environment
Report project and organizational status to Division management
Management of the entire product implementation cycle including system/software requirements analysis, high level and detailed design, implementation, testing, integration, documentation, and government certification of embedded software and/or FPGA designs
Manage project execution to meet established budget, schedule, and scope constraints.
Manage staffing allocations against defined engineering resource demands.
Detailed understanding and knowledge of best practices for configuration management, design processes, software/FPGA design, code development and release to production.
Functional and project management of a small development group for the development of high assurance communications products in the tactical military radio and networking application domains
Project and program planning, including cost, schedule, and resource estimates.
Effective interpersonal skills, ability to convey technical and business matters in a clear and logical manner.
Ability to manage and make trade-offs between product recurring cost, budget, schedule and technical solution.
Work with product design, test, manufacturing, logistics engineering teams, product and program management and other groups, and external customers as needed to define and execute radio product development projects and deliver high-quality radio products.
Ensure the conversion of customer requirements, into total systems solutions that balance technical, schedule and cost constraints.
BSEE, BSCE, or BSCS degree required
Minimum of 15 years engineering experience with 5 years software project management experience required
Experience in performing project planning, tracking, and oversight activities for software development projects
Ability to work autonomously and with others to resolve issues
Ability to obtain US Government Secret Security Clearance
Effective interpersonal skills, ability to convey technical and business matters in a clear, logical manner
Excellent verbal and written communications skills
Capability Maturity Model (CMM and CMMI) and standard software development processes
C, C++ and object-oriented design
Scheduling using Microsoft Project
Preferred Additional Skills:
Mentoring and directing the activities of small groups of engineers.
Experience/knowledge of Capability Maturity Model (CMM)/Capability Maturity Model Integration (CMMI) systems and software development processes or other defined SW development process.
PMP certification or equivalent
Radio communications, video processing/encoding, and networking knowledge
Experience with DOORS or equivalent requirements management tools a plus
Military waveform experience
