JOB SUMMARY
U.S. Steel’s Research Group is seeking an experienced safety, environmental, quality and facility Manager to lead a team of safety and facilities personnel. This position will coordinate the site safety and environmental programs and processes as well as managing the planning, construction and maintenance of the equipment and building.
JOB DUTIES

Position is responsible for:
Managing a team of exempt and nonexempt personnel at US Steel Research; team comprised of Facility, Safety, Lean and quality.
Operating with the knowledge and ability to utilize lean methods (Carnegie Way) to identify and implement continuous improvement projects,
Ensuring regulatory inspection requirements for elevators, pressure vessels, etc. are completed on time
Coordinating maintenance and repair of all equipment related to electrical, plumbing, grounds and building
Managing all utilities (including industrial gases), janitorial services and waste removal
Coordinating maintenance for EOT and jib cranes, mobile equipment and lease vehicles
Ensuring HVAC, dust collection and ventilation equipment is operating properly
Coordinating the planning and execution of facility capital projects
Developing and monitoring autonomous and preventative maintenance programs
Managing the work order and purchasing systems
Developing and promoting safety and environmental policies/programs for all employees.
Ensuring compliance with federal (OSHA, EPA), state and local government requirements.
Coordinating Star Audits and recording all findings to include corrective actions.
Leading safety communications.
Inspecting physical locations to analyze safety and environmental programs and procedures, and to identify possible problem areas.
Recommending personal protective equipment and loss prevention programs as needed.
Conducting incident investigations of incidents to determine root cause and corrective actions.
Coordinating all industrial hygiene sampling requirements as needed.
Providing consultation and recommendations for physical changes in the facility.
Oversight and supervision of contracted services
Setting priorities and ensuring that expedited requests are addressed immediately
Responsible for ensuring A2LA quality certification compliance
Responsible for quality documentation
Promoting teamwork and staff engagement
Managing skills matrix for the team

REQUIREMENTS

Bachelor’s Degree in safety/environmental related technical, scientific or engineering discipline and a minimum of five years of safety experience in an industrial setting, including: comprehensive knowledge of Safety (OSHA) and Environmental statutes and regulations and OSHA VPP experience or related knowledge.
Qualified candidates will possess: strong communication skills, both interpersonal and facilitation, proven ability to make decisions, motivate team members, manage emergency situations and demonstrated project management skills.
Knowledge and experience working with a Safety Management System preferred.
Knowledge and experience leading cross functional problem solving
Tenacity, people skills and energy in leading change towards an effective work environment.
