Facilities Management (FM) supports the University of Virginia's wide range of research, academic and patient care programs. With over 1,200 employees dedicated to excellence, Facilities Management is responsible for the day-to-day operation, repair and maintenance of U.Va.'s buildings, infrastructure and grounds as well as other University-owned and leased properties.

Geospatial Engineering Services maintains the archive of construction and related documents for over 600 University buildings, associated infrastructure and Grounds. Users include the faculty, staff, and students of the University, and contracted consultants, architects, engineers, and design professionals. The Document Management Specialist/Archivist maintains the archive of drawings, plans, specifications, and other materials associated with projects that affect the physical Grounds. In addition to managing project information, the incumbent is responsible for organizing, indexing, and preserving documents identified by Facilities Management departments for retention in the Enterprise Document Management System. The Document Management Specialist/Archivist responds to requests for information through research and analysis of the archive. The incumbent helps set the protocols and procedures for archiving information.

A Bachelor's Degree in architecture, engineering, library or archival sciences, information science or related field. Relevant experience (typically 8 years) may be considered in lieu of degree, with a minimum of two years of experience maintaining digital archives in a professional environment. Working knowledge of physical and digital archival procedures/standards and familiarity with construction techniques, engineering, and architectural terminology is essential. Positive customer services skills with the ability to interact effectively with a diverse group of customers is also required. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Access, Publisher) and Adobe Acrobat is required.
