Impact Assessment, Inc. (IAI) is seeking a full-time Bilingual Community Engagement Specialist. IAI is a California-based organization that conducts a broad range of public health activities and provides technical assistance to programs across California. This limited-term, non-exempt position is currently funded for eight (8) months, with future funding expected to extend this position for an additional year and possibly beyond.
The Bilingual Community Engagement Specialist will be assigned to an environmental health project in Los Angeles County with a focus on lead poisoning prevention. Under the direction of the Project Manager and the Assistant Project Coordinator, the Bilingual Community Engagement Specialist will:
- Convey information about a County lead hazard remediation program to community members through participation at in-person and virtual community events and meetings, door knocking, phone calls, and home visits.
- Assist tenants, landlords, and homeowners enroll in the lead hazard remediation program in person and remotely.
- Provide limited lead poisoning prevention education and referrals to other health and housing services to applicants.
- Review applications for completeness and correctness, and follow up to obtain missing/corrected information.
- Use online tools to track and report on outreach activities and application statuses.
- Distribute outreach materials to community, business, and government partners.
- Communicate regularly and coordinate closely with a small team of other community engagement staff.
This position will be work from home with regular local travel to outreach events and occasional trips to drop-off materials at community, business, and government organizations (in the Florence, Green Meadows, Vermont Vista, and Westmont areas). Applicants should have reliable internet service at their work area and a quiet and private space for phone calls and web-based meetings. A work cell phone, laptop computer, and tablet will be provided.
Qualifications
- An associate degree in public health or health education and/or certification as a Community Health Worker (CHW) or Promotor(a) preferred but not required.
- Must have a vehicle and a valid driver's license for travel (mileage will be reimbursed).
- Fluency in Spanish and English.
Other Requirements
- Must be able to travel to and near the City of Los Angeles on a regular basis to work in the field.
- Must be able to work on weekends and hours outside of typical 9-5 workday (will not exceed 40 hours per week).
- Demonstrated ability to establish trust and rapport with people from a variety of cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds.
- Experience communicating health information.
- Organized, detail-oriented, and self-motivated.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Familiarity with web-based meeting tools, such as Zoom or MS Teams.
Compensation
The hourly rate for this non-exempt, full-time, limited term position is $23.50 - $26.00 per hour, depending on experience. The position is funded through awards with local agencies and continuation of the position is dependent upon sustained/new funding.
