Intern - Drafting and Design
College students perform duties and assist in providing support in a variety of areas. Assignments include, but are not limited to assisting with conducting research and analysis work, preparing reports, limited program development, preparing public information, statistical and/or fundamental computer work. Conducts preliminary reviews on statistical data and reports. Assists in the planning and design of projects and/or studies. Students attending a technical, junior college or a four-year accredited institution, located in the United States, which offers an Intern Program, are eligible to apply to TxDOT for a College Student Intern position. Work may require contact with departmental personnel and governmental agencies. Employees at this level perform assignments following specific instructions and are subject to frequent review by the immediate supervisor.
The essential duties for Intern - Drafting and Design include the following:
Assists in preparing required worksheets, inspection reports and assists in preparing technical publications.
Assists in the development of spreadsheets, databases and computer generated documents.
Assists in the preparation, assembly, review and verification of various documents and/or forms; gathers basic data and assists with routine statistical analysis, documents and reports.
Uses database, spreadsheet and/or graphics software applications to prepare statistical reports or presentations and verifies for accuracy and completeness.
Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.

This job requires the following:
High School Grad or Equivalent in general high school studies
Must be at least 17 years of age or older.
Must be enrolled in a qualifying educational institution other than by correspondence.
Must have a 2.5 minimum overall grade point average and maintain at least a 2.0 grade point average while employed by TxDOT.
Must be enrolled full-time in an accredited college-level technical, junior college or a four-year accredited institution, located in the United States.
Students may apply for a College Student Intern position any time after completing at least 28 semester hours applicable toward formal degree requirements.

Conditions of Employment
Must pass a drug test prior to employment for commercial driver, safety impact and vessel crewmember positions. Commercial drivers, safety impact employees and vessel crewmembers will be subject to additional drug and alcohol testing during employment.
Required to work hours other than 8 to 5.
Required to work weekends and holidays.
Required to work under exposure to inclement weather conditions.
Required to repond during emergency operations.
Required to wear personal protective equipment provided by employer and comply with all safety requirements.
