PHI’s Health Intervention Projects for Underserved Populations (HIPUP) is seeking a Health Educator to support the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) project. HIPUP aims to improve substance abuse and HIV/AIDS prevention and treatment research and services for underserved populations, such as transgender persons, Asian and Pacific Islander men who have sex with men (MSM) and substance users. Through collaboration with targeted community members, community-based organizations and public health departments, HIPUP, led by Dr. Tooru Nemoto, strives to have a significant impact on health promotion and human rights for underserved communities locally and internationally. As a Health Educator you will :
Facilitate outreach to trans youth communities in San Francisco and Alameda counties, as well as online
Host Motivational Enhancement Intervention sessions for project participants in order to reduce substance abuse and HIV risk behaviors
Maintain collaborative working relationships with Asian Health Services and Instituto Familiar de la Raza to implement various Mariposa II activities
Refer project participants to HIV/Vital Hepatitis testing at Asian Health Services and other collaborating clinics
Conduct intake and follow-up risk assessments with project participants
Other duties as assigned
Our ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications:

High School Diploma
Bachelor’s degree in a social services or health sciences related field (Preferred)
1 year of related experience
Experience working in transgender communities particularly with LGBTQ youth
Knowledge of HIV, substance abuse and health disparity issues within the transgender community in San Francisco and Alameda counties
Case management and counseling experience (Preferred)
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel and Outlook)

Important Information :
This is a full time (40 hours/week) position based in Oakland, CA
This job requires light travel to meet with community partners and perform site visits
