The Clinical Dietitian Specialist practices as an expert in the application of the nutrition process and theory within a specialty area. The primary responsibility of the Clinical Dietitian Specialist is to advance patient care directly in the role of expert clinical practitioner and indirectly in the roles of educator, consultant, and researcher. Responsible for providing diabetes self management training and medical nutrition therapy to patients referred to the Diabetes Center.
Work requires a high level of analytical ability to incorporate into practice advance clinical and theoretical concepts.
Requires substantial interpersonal skills in order to communicate effectively with all members of the interdisciplinary health care team to enhance collaboration and problem-solving; and to interact with patients and families.
Requires ability to assist in supervision of support staff.
Exhibits communication skills necessary to interpret age-specific responses to assessment, treatment, and interaction with others.
Full Time (40 hours)
Registered with the Commission on Dietetic Registration and licensed with the State of Maryland or licensure-eligible.
Certification as a Certified Diabetes Educator is preferred or must be obtained within 1 year of hire.
Clinical Dietitian Specialist I- Bachelors
Clinical Dietitian Specialist II- Bachelors and Specialty Certification (CDE), or Masters
Clinical Dietitian Specialist III- Masters degree required; an additional 4 years' experience will be considered in lieu of an advanced degree; Specialty Certification (CDE) required
Clinical Dietitian Specialist I- 2 years of clinical experience as an RD
Clinical Dietitian Specialist II- 4 years of clinical experience as an RD
Clinical Dietitian Specialist III - 6 years of clinical experience as an RD with a Masters; 10 years' experience without a masters
Works in patient care areas where there are no physical discomforts due to dust, dirt, temperature and the like
