The Associate Director of Community Engagement and Applied Learning will provide overall leadership and coordination of the community engagement, member enrollment, and outreach support strategy and the professional development workshops/trainings of the HomeGrown STL project. The position will supervise the HGSTL Community Engagement Coordinator. Responsible for supervising staff, graduate and PhD students and volunteers. Additionally, may be required to supervise Brown School practicum students and interns.
HomeGrown STL is a participatory, population-level, evidence-based, high impact intervention of the Race and Opportunity Lab, at the Brown School at Washington University in St. Louis. The goal of this effort is to increase the social mobility of the over 60,000 black boys and young men, ages 12-29, in St. Louis City and County by 2039. In partnership with community service providers, the focus of HGSTL is understanding and implementing solutions to the problems facing young black boys and men today in the St. Louis region. Such solutions must come from the region itself with good use of data and strategic action. In summary, the purpose is to demonstrate the utility of a data-informed and place-based model of comprehensive care coordination, intensive outreach, and interagency collaborations.
In collaboration with the HomeGrown STL (HGSTL) Faculty Director, Race and Opportunity Lab Manager, and the HGSTL Local leadership teams, the role will facilitate and guide the strategic planning and implementation of the Intensive Recruitment and Outreach Corp (IROC) and the Preferred provider Network (PPN). The Associate Director will serve as a leader, visionary, point of contact, and spokesperson for the HomeGrown STL within the community. This includes often serving as a representative of Dr. Sean Joe and Washington University. The specialist will identify organizational partners aligned with the strategic vision, and conduct outreach. This position develops and deploys strategies for effective collaboration to enhance shared services, data sharing, and resources for organizational partners, with a focus on ensuring equitable opportunities for healing and upward mobility for black boys and young ages 12-29 years. The position will serve as a liaison and connector, working closely with community-based organizations, to cultivate relationships and manage opportunities for strategic, sustainable and equitable community engagement. This includes administrators in nonprofit organizations, thought leaders from academia, community leaders, media, and local governments.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
In collaboration with Dr. Sean Joe, Faculty investigator, the Associate Director of Community Engagement and Applied Learning will implement the strategic vision and mission of HomeGrown STL; determine and solidify strategic partnerships, and will help advance the programmatic agenda, and evaluate the success of HomeGrown STL.
Lead and coordinate the planning, development, monitoring, and implementation of the Intensive Recruitment and Outreach Corp (IROC) and the Preferred provider Network (PPN) of the HomeGrown STL project.
Work with the HGSTL Faculty Director to identify potential organizational partners aligned with mission and values of HomeGrown STL.
Develop partnerships that are aligned with overall goals and strategic plan. Negotiate and prepare collaborative agreements.
Create policies to ensure that opportunities and resources are directed to build capacity for internal systems to evaluate outcomes within ongoing projects.
Communicate with HomeGrown STL PPN members to assess performance needs and determine the appropriate training curriculum and format for Intensive Recruitment and Outreach Corp.
Conduct analysis to better understand nonprofit capacities and challenges of outreach and enrollment specialists.
Provide high-quality professional development workshops, learning community, classroom modeling and/or individual action-based consulting sessions for outreach and enrollment specialists involved in the Intensive Recruitment and Outreach Corp (IROC).
Serves as mentor, providing coaching and feedback regarding attainment of instructional designer and/or multimedia developer work plan milestones, and individual goal achievement.
Provides capacity building and professional development opportunities in best practices and emerging approaches for outreach and enrollment.
Serve as the primary facilitator and liaison between HomeGrown STL, Race and opportunity Lab, and relevant units within the University (e.g., other Brown School Research Centers, Human Resources and Administrative Offices) to ensure efficient execution of hiring, operations, legal contracts and fiscal management that advance the IROC, PPN, and member enrollment. Coordinate efforts with collaborative partners within the University to ensure community partners are supported to advance the vision and mission of HGSTL.
Design and implement marketing and engagement plans, which may include working on websites and social media and writing and/or producing presentations, reports, articles, leaflets, journals and brochures for both external and internal distribution.
Build and manage tools and systems to ensure operational excellence.
Monitor effective benchmarks for measuring the impact of programmatic activities by working with internal and external partners to ensure successful delivery of funding activities and goals.

Bachelor’s degree in social work, social sciences, or related field and five – seven years’ experience in community engagement or Master’s degree and 3 years’ experience.
Five or more years related experience in community participatory research, curriculum development, community engagement, organizing, policy practice, government leadership, particularly in the St. Louis region.
Excellent verbal, written, and visual communication skills.
Master's Degree in Social Work from an accredited college/university

The hiring range for this position is $51,909 - $67,470 annually.
