Job Description Summary
The Park Ranger will provide high quality in-person customer service and education to park users while patrolling parks and recreation facilities. The Recreation Division administers over 4,000 reservations annually of various amenities including ramadas, fields, courts, facilities, and plaza/amphitheater. In scheduled use alone, the division sees over 180,000 visitors each year. Enhanced customer service and supervision of park amenities, reservations, and park rule enforcement is essential to ensuring the department provides the community with high-quality experiences when visiting the park.
The Park Ranger requires a positive demeanor, good judgment, and ability to perform patrol/enforcement functions within departmental guidelines. Additionally, this position will ensure that individual users and groups are utilizing the park for its intended purposes and will allow residents to have an open and available park to utilize throughout the year. They will also be responsible for maintaining accurate daily records and logs throughout each shift. The Park Ranger is a part time position and rangers must be able to work flexible hours, including evening, weekend, and holiday hours. Employees are required to use appropriate safety equipment and followed assigned procedures in performing assignments.

The Park Ranger position requires a high school diploma or GED and a valid driver's license. Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation/Automated External Defibrillator (CPR/AED) certifications are preferred. Must possess a valid Driver's License.
Experience as a park ranger and active park patrol experience is preferred.
Establish and maintain effective public relations by communicating with the general public and other city employees to provide direction, information, and interpretation of rules and regulation; both orally and in writing.
Keep accurate records of park patrol time and activities and prepare detailed reports such as daily logs, incident reports, and accident reports. Submits work orders and suggestions relevant to improving park planning and the quality of park maintenance to ensure safety and security of park equipment, facilities, and grounds.
Monitors and observes organized and unorganized events in the parks to ensure safety and appropriateness of activities, and detect potentially hazardous situations. Conducts building and equipment safety checks at facilities and playgrounds.
Operates a motor vehicle requiring a standard Driver's License while performing routine security patrol of park areas and facilities. Operates a cell phone, IPAD and/or Laptop. Walks extensively while patrolling the parks, and performs outdoor duties under varying work and climatic conditions. Sets up and removes folding tables, chairs, barricades, traffic cones, or similar objects as needed.
Comprehends and makes inferences from written rules, regulations, ordinances, and statutes relating to municipal parks in order to provide enforcement and ensure the safety and security of park facilities and grounds. Prioritizes work assignments and deals effectively with rules violations.
Ability to follow protocol, work independently, deal effectively with the public in stressful situations requiring tact and diplomacy, react quickly and efficiently in emergency situations, anticipate and solve problems on a daily basis, perform outdoor duties under varying work and climatic conditions, and understand and follow oral and written instructions.
