Title: Director, Embryology

Location: UMass Memorial Medical Group – Memorial Campus
Provide leadership to the OB/GYN Department to address strategic planning for and the management of embryological clinical services. Responsible for the day to day operations of the lab. Perform various embryological medical procedures as necessary, including IVF and fertility analysis.
Responsible for the day-to-day technical and adminstrative aspects of IVF lab operation under the direction of the Medical Director.
Counsel and advise patients on fertility and ART (Assisted Reproductive Technology) procedures.
Treat infertility issues using ART.
Perform technical benchwork, quality control and quality assurance activities and paperwork.
Train newly hired embryologists. Work closely with the Medical Director to assure quality patient care and compliance with regulatory and accreditating agencies.
Resolve technical problems including equipment troubleshooting following manufacturer’s instructions and/or in accordance with policies and procedures approved by the laboratory director.
Review, revise, and write IVF laboratory protocols.

Directs and supervises assigned personnel including performance evaluations, scheduling, orientation, and training. Makes recommendations on employee hires, transfers, promotions, salary changes, discipline, terminations, and similar actions. Resolves grievances and other personnel problems within position responsibilities.
Develops and recommends the budgets for the areas managed. Manages activities to assure financial goals are met.
Coordinates the assignment of tasks and helps resolve technical and operational problems. Evaluates the impact of solutions to ensure goals are achieved.
Provides effective direction, guidance, and leadership over the staff for effective teamwork and motivation, and fosters the effective integration of efforts with system-wide initiatives.

Ensures compliance with regulatory agencies such as Joint Commission, DPH, etc. Develops and maintains procedures necessary to meet regulatory requirements.
Ensures that department complies with hospital established policies, quality assurance programs, safety, and infection control policies and procedures.
Ensures adequate equipment and supplies for department.
Develops and maintains established departmental policies, procedures, and objectives.
Ensures compliance to all health and safety regulations and requirements.
Maintains, regular, reliable, and predictable attendance.
Performs similar or related duties as required or directed.
Doctorate (PhD) degree in chemical, physical, biological, medical technology, clinical or reproductive laboratory science from an accredited institution.
Certified as a High Complexity Laboratory Director (H.C.L.D.) with additional licensure as required by state or local laws or regulations
Experience in starting a new embryology laboratory.
Certification as Technical Supervisor (American Board of Bioanalysis).
Experience of at least 3 years in all IVF procedures including, ICSI, AH, vitrification, blastocyst biopsy and other related procedures.
Be proficient in all IVF procedures including intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI), Assisted hatching (AH), embryo/blastocyst vitrification, blastocyst biopsy, biopsied cell processing for PGT, oocyte vitrification and warming.
Previous leadership experience.
Knowledge to conduct CAP, FDA and CLIA inspections.
Must possess the interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written) to provide effective participative leadership and to interact with patients, families, physicians, and other visitors and staff.
Excellent communication, both verbal and written
Basic computer skills necessary for data entry, making data summary tables/spreadsheets and operating electronic medical record.
Must be detail oriented and a team player.
3 years of IVF laboratory director experience.
