Senior Chemical Engineer
Position Summary
DPE has a position available for an experienced Chemical Engineer in the Chloroprene Polymer plant at the
Pontchartrain (LaPlace, Louisiana) location. This role will provide process technical support to meet customer needs for the Neoprene business. The role will provide assistance to operations through daily process technical support, participate on various quality teams, will participate in process improvements, participate on capital projects, provide technical assistance to area maintenance on reliability and uptimes issues, and participate on area Process Safety Management teams. This position reports to the Manufacturing Technology Manager.
Essential Job Functions
⎯ Lead in the promotion of a strong safety and environmental stewardship culture. Ensure good engineering practices and standards are followed. Contribute with technical expertise to events that impact the safety, health, and environmental performance of the site.
⎯ Lead and participate on site teams tasked to address the Process Safety Management (PSM) requirements including Management of Change (MOC), Process Hazard Analysis (PHA), Incident Investigations and basic technical data like Standard Operating Conditions (SOC). Implement the recommendations from these systems.
⎯ Serve as technical lead for a specific areas of the process. Provide technical assistance, calculations and troubleshooting for the daily operational, maintenance and product quality needs.
⎯ Lead and steer the progress of capital projects. Ensure these achieve the scope, schedule and cost goals.
⎯ Provide basic data and calculations for capital projects. Participate in design and vendor information reviews for these.
⎯ Identify and lead cost and continuous improvement opportunities at the site.
⎯ Assist the Procurement Team in the development of bid packages for technical consulting firms and vendors.
⎯ Mentor younger engineers by delegating work, providing coaching of critical operating tasks, and reviewing calculations, minor design changes, and technical reports.
⎯ Work and consult with other engineering and design resources to ensure the efficient progress of initiatives.
⎯ Communicates to site & business management.
Minimum Job Qualifications
⎯ BS Chemical Engineering from ABET Accredited University Program. Applicants with MS ChE degrees are welcomed.
⎯ Minimum of 8 years’ experience, preferably in a chemical or petrochemical plant environment.
⎯ Experience with highly hazardous chemical processes, such as those handling chlorine, other HTMs or reactive monomers.
⎯ Experience with leadership of Process Safety Management (PSM) programs and work streams, specifically
Process Safety Information, Process Hazard Analyses, Management of Change, continuous improvement through incident investigations and root cause determination, auditing and on-time completion of PSM recommendations. The successful candidate may be tapped to take on significant leadership role of our PSM program.
⎯ Knowledge and experience of chemical manufacturing unit operations, like reactors and distillations units.
⎯ Strong technical, analytical and organizational skills.
⎯ Understanding of basic economic information (IRR, NPV, PB, etc)
⎯ Strong computer skills in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint
⎯ High levels of interpersonal, communication and technical writing skills.
⎯ Aspen Plus or similar process modeling skills are considered a bonus.
⎯ Six Sigma Green Belt certification or higher is considered a plus.
