Nordstrom is looking for a talented individual to lead our People Data Science team, the technical arm of the People Analytics organization. This person will play an integral role in evolving People Analytics toward the next stage by building the data science engine and productionizing people analytics insights.
As the Manager of People Data Science, you will manage data scientists and data analytics who will partner with our IO Psychologists and Employee Experience program managers to produce a suite of data tools, statistical and deep learning models that support the next level of stakeholder decision-making.
The ideal candidate is organized and a true partner who continually evaluates the current state and drives continuous improvement efforts related to technology, project process, service levels and prioritization.
You will collaborate both closely with the rest of the People Analytics organization and with other HR Teams on a consistent basis to align on priorities and deliverables. You should be able to articulate well to all levels of the organization (VPs, Directors, Consultants & Analysts) and possess excellent comprehension skills.
You have a working knowledge of HRIS systems, data infrastructures, general knowledge of human resource functions and data gathering, and consulting and presentation experience. In addition, you should have a high level of technical aptitude and basic project management skills in order to facilitate requirement to translate and contribute to product design and execution.
Typical Responsibilities include:
Partner with HR and the IO Psychologists to assesses the needs of the business, prioritize projects and drive data science and analytics projects.
Work with your team to produce complex analytical and machine learning solutions to support people practices and programs, and productionize the results for ongoing analysis and consumption.
Proactively and systematically identifies and recommends any enhancements to data products and processes.
Coordinate, support, and challenge your team of Data Scientists and Data Analysts to achieve desirable outcomes.
Identify new data sources that will support strategic and tactical objectives for the team and stakeholders.
Provide insights on trends and drivers behind the results and prepare reports on findings.
Work cross-functionally as needed to enable data architecture and solutions that best meet the modeling and predictive needs.
Productionize complex data products for internal team use and for ease of use by stakeholders.
Identify and communicate key insights to the rest of the People Analytics team and leadership team.
Manage key partnership with HR and the Business, such as Workforce Management the Technology Business Unit.
Assumes project/initiative responsibility.

5 + years Data Analytics experience in a large corporate environment
3 + years People Management experience, especially managing technical data roles.
HRIS System Experience
Advanced MS Office: Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Access, etc.
Strong BI tool skills, especially Tableau, and querying language (SQL)
Strong statistical tool skills in R or Python
Strong experience with statistical methodologies and techniques (e.g., ML, regressions, group differences,
Strong analytical, problem-solving and communication skills
A talent for multi-tasking, prioritizing objectives, and meeting deadlines
Proven ability to self-direct work efforts
Excellent presentation and communications skills (oral and written)
