Loyola University Chicago is the lead agency on a Community School Initiative (CSI) in partnership with McCutcheon Elementary School. The CSI seeks to reimagine neighborhood public schools as centers of community where programs and opportunities are generated for students, family and community members beyond the traditional school day. The VISTA project is conceptualized in support of this goal with an eye towards building capacity of the CSI program that serves K-8 students, parents, teachers, and community members through program development, opportunities, and leadership among parents, generating strategies that build leadership skills among students, building a strong infrastructure of volunteer recruitment and placement, and ensuring high quality programming through developing systems of professional development, support, and evaluation. The biweekly living allowance for this position is $542.22. In addition to the benefits listed above, the host site will provide a CTA Pass and other professional development opportunities. The AmeriCorps VISTA serving at the Loyola University will be part of a dynamic, motivated corps with Campus Compact VISTA. Serving as a member of a corps provides VISTAs the chance to connect with members throughout multiple states, create a network of support, and to share resources. As the intermediary, Campus Compact, a national non-profit, supports the professional and personal growth of VISTA members through a variety of professional development opportunities and in-person trainings including overnight retreats throughout their service year.
