DESCRIPTION/GOALS: Direct and manage the university career services as it assists all student, alumni, faculty, and employer clients in the development of career education, career readiness and management, identification and search, and pursuit of employment opportunities commensurate with formal academic pursuits. Continually expand the client/user base and scope of services to ensure provision of the widest array of services possible to the broadest mix of academic and corporate clients.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Serves as the primary liaison between the university, its students and alumni, and potential employers on a state, regional, national, and international scale.
- Responsible for fiscal planning and management for career services, including all operations and staffing matters.
- Serves as adviser and interfaces with representatives of industrial, governmental, and educational employers to assist in the most effective use of career services’ efforts.
- In collaboration with the Employer Relations Team, develops new contacts with external organizations for the purpose of expanding employment opportunities for students and alumni.
- Reviews and supervises the on-campus recruitment and interviewing processes along with the Employer relations Team
- Coordinates and supervises staff professional development activities and training, to include travel for professional development workshops, seminars, and conferences.
- Closely coordinates communication with deans, department chairs, and other faculty to ensure that the career services department is meeting the needs and desires of the academic colleges and departments, within the limitations imposed by the size of the staff and financial support provided by the university.
- Constantly monitors, analyzes, and evaluates current scope of services offered through career services and plans, implements, and directs new programs under the supervision of the Executive Vice Provost.
- Serves in a leadership role in various professional organizations including, but not limited to, the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) and those regional affiliates which provide broad opportunities for job development activities.
- Supervises five (currently Associate) Directors and administrative support staff.
- Leads large portfolio of career professionals across schools and academic programs
-Manages career advising, business career services, and employment relations, employer operations and communications, and pre-health advising
-Oversees day-to-day operations of the Career Services to ensure student-focused and alumni service.
- Provides leadership and articulates the vision and mission for Career Services. Fosters a positive team dynamic among staff in the unit, focused on student and alumni success. This position and the Career Center is poised for expansion, and will be directly involved in the strategic vision of the Office of the Provost.

- Responsible for fiscal planning and oversight of the annual operating budget.
- Develops and implements annual strategic plans, policies, procedures and protocols.
- Represents the Career Services on University committees relevant to employment, academic support services and initiatives.
- Expands post-graduation opportunities for students through partnering with potential employers, service organizations and graduate schools.
- Advises and advocates for the development of university-wide policies, procedures, systems, and tools that support successful
preparation for employment and transition into post-graduation experiences. Participates in all phases from idea generation to implementation, evaluation and result reporting.
- Publishes an annual report with outcomes data on post-graduation placements.
- Performs related duties as required, with a commitment to being an anti-racist institution and an overall engagement with DEI initiatives is required.
Master’s degree or equivalent professional degree; and at least 15 + years related experience in career advising and coaching, employer engagement, fundraising and grant development, with the last five directing a large-scale career development center/office, to include pre-health advising and coaching. Demonstrated success with career outcomes is a must in this role.
