Pediatric Specialists of Virginia (PSV) Description:
PSV is a pediatric specialty physician enterprise that is governed by the Inova Health System (Inova) and Children’s National Health System (Children’s National). PSV provides world-class pediatric specialty care to the Northern Virginia area. More than 90 physicians and 40 advance practice professionals are part of PSV. These practitioners are located throughout the Northern Virginia region in coordination with Inova’s and Children’s National network of hospitals and outpatient facilities.

Overview of Position:
The CEO is the principal leader of all activities at PSV. This position includes all operational and financial authority for PSV and requires the incumbent to lead a high functioning team of renowned physicians, nurses, and administrators, develop and execute on strategic plans consistent with overall PSV goals, manage clinical affairs, interface with leaders across the parent organizations of Children’s National and Inova, and develop expanded and lasting relationships with private practice providers across the region. The CEO will report directly to the PSV Management Committee (PSV’s governing body).

Responsibilities Include:
  • Coordinate leadership and strategic decisions for PSV with the Management Committee.
  • Oversee all physician services and direct COO, CMO, CSO, and CFO positions.
  • Lead development of new business opportunities; oversee physician practice acquisition decision making.
  • Develop and oversee physician recruitment and employment strategies.
  • Ensure that financial and operational targets are achieved.
  • Oversee finances, including budgeting, control of salary, non-salary and capital investment expenses. Oversee the development of detailed fiscal and operational reporting.
  • Oversee the administration of physician employment contracts, compensation, and benefits.
  • Oversee all contracting functions including purchased service agreements with Inova and Children’s National.
  • Oversee the negotiation and execution of managed care contracts.
  • Oversee professional fee billing operations supporting all billable providers who are part of the enterprise.
  • Develop strategies and plans for patient volume growth.
  • Work collaboratively with other Systems departments in the establishment of innovative risk-based reimbursement programs.
  • Guide and support the research and education activities based at PSV.
  • Lead and develop the clinical and administrative teams.
  • Partner with the medical staff and executive leaders to provide consistent highly reliable clinical care and success in patient safety initiatives.
  • Create an environment of high reliability and accountability for performance assuring consistency with PSV values, academic excellence, clinical quality, patient safety, customer service, team engagement, and physician partnering.
  • Maintain an active clinical practice.
Professional and Education Qualifications Required:
The successful candidate should have the following qualifications and experience:
  • Doctor of Medicine, licensed or eligible for license in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Board Certified in an approved ABMS specialty. Master of Business Administration or comparable advanced degree or training is desired.
  • A minimum of ten years of leadership and/or executive experience leading a physician group practice (greater than 100 physicians/advanced practice professionals) is essential. Pediatric specialty experience is desirable.
  • Senior management experience in a complex health system is essential.
  • Demonstrate a strong track record of developing and maintaining collaborative relationships among diverse groups. These will include but not limited to Management Committee members, Senior Leadership Team, medical staff, external stakeholders, physicians, administrative peers.
  • Proven success and experience with physician development and physician compensation plans.
  • The ability to create an environment of open communication and trust with physicians and Children’s National and Inova management.
  • Broad-based experience in all aspects of managing an organization, including finance, program management, service or business development, process improvement, communications and marketing, and patient relations
