The Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) is seeking a Senior Communications Specialist to lead internal communications and marketing programs to advance the agency’s mission, purpose, and vision. Reporting to the Director of Communications & Marketing, this role is responsible for leading the employee communications function and plays a critical role in supporting organizational transformation and advancement.

This position plays a pivotal role in communicating and translating the various initiatives into clear and motivating communications that help inform and inspire the DMV toward this vision for the future.
The Senior Communications Specialist will be joining a highly motivated team of fun-loving professionals with a passion for serving Virginians. They must be a great team player, a stellar writer, editor, and multitasker with a proven record of outside-the-box thinking.
Responsibilities Include:
- Managing internal communications (articles, memos, newsletters, guides, strategy documents, roll-out campaigns, FAQs, posts, etc.)
- Providing consultative support and recommendations regarding internal and external communication/marketing strategies and appropriate tactics
- Developing thorough project plans including audiences, issues, goals, implementation steps, timelines and evaluation methods
- Managing employee information campaigns, events and supporting external campaigns
- Researching, writing, editing and distributing reports, letters, articles, newsletter content, speeches, web content and other written/printed materials for internal and external audiences
The Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV), headquartered in Richmond, Virginia, serves approximately 6.2 million licensed drivers and ID card holders with over 8.4 million registered vehicles. Minimum Qualifications
- Strong verbal, written, organization and presentation skills and attention to detail
- Ability to provide creative solutions to problems
- Excellent project management skills
- Knowledge of developing training materials and training sessions for system or project implementations
- Ability to handle diverse and complex situations and interact with diverse constituencies including executive level decision-makers
- Experience in developing programs/campaigns designed to generate measurable results
- Proven ability to analyze proposals and make impact assessments to interpret and apply laws and regulations. This can include translating complex information into plain language that is easy to understand.
Additional Considerations
- Considerable knowledge of employee communications, public relations, media relations, emerging media, marketing concepts, event planning, promotions, coordination and evaluation of public relations/communications activities
- Experience developing and executing strategic communications/marketing plans
