Job Summary:
The Operating Room Technician in Central Sterile is directly accountable to the Central Sterile Manager and the Director of Surgical Services. She/he performs specific functions in processing, sterilizing, and issuing supplies used in patient care by surgery, maternity services, outpatient facility, and other departments. The role also includes scrubbing in on operating room cases as needed. Primary functions of the job include:
- Working in each specific area of Central Sterile Processing, i.e.; decontamination, pack and prep, wrapping, sterilization, and replacing of sets to BIN locations. Following orientation competently utilizes all methods of sterilization and record-keeping available in CSP.
- If called upon to work in the OR in the capacity of surgical technician, gowns, gloves, and approaches the sterile field competently.
- Assists with the aftercare of equipment and supplies.
- Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served; also demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development and possesses the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interprets the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age specific needs, and to provide the care needed.

- Demonstrates ability to use all methods of sterilization found in Central Sterile, i.e.; steam sterilizers, sterrad, and V-pro
- Demonstrates ability to scan and record all loads correctly
- Demonstrates knowledge of set cooling time
- Stores sets to BIN locations accurately
- Dispenses sets to ancillary departments accurately
- Demonstrates ability to restock OR replacement rack
- Demonstrates ability to peel-pack items correctly
- Functions within the sterile field when an extra set of hands is needed.

Qualifications:
Education/Skills
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Graduate from accredited Surgical Technician program required.
Work Experience:
- Experience as an OR Technician preferred.
