Job Summary:
Assembles and repairs furniture, equipment, fixtures, and plumbing. Performs such duties as repairing broken furniture and other items, installing and repairing minor plumbing as required, working on pneumatic tube system, maintaining proper operation of all doors and door closures, hanging pictures, brackets and other items, making minor repairs on hospital beds, cleaning and performing minor repairs to electrical fixtures. Replaces light bulbs, starters, ballasts, lenses, and ceiling tile. Performs related duties as needed. Receives and acts upon routine and preventative maintenance work orders. Returns completed work orders to engineering clerk within three days. Must have willingness to work for the best interest of the hospital with due consideration for patients. Must be able to work under emergency conditions and in difficult situations. Requisitions and orders parts as needed. Rotates on-call responsibilities with other engineering personnel. Demonstrates knowledge and skills to appropriately communicate and interact with the patients, families, and visitors of all age groups while being sensitive to their cultural and religious beliefs. Engineering Purchaser/Inventory Control (section applies to Engineeing purchasing position only): Maintains inventory of all standard parts and critical parts for selected pieces of equipment, places orders for special order parts, researches equipment as needed to determine correct items to order, maintains storeroom in an organized and neat manner to expedite issuance of parts, processes packing slips/invoices for prompt payment, keeps staff advised as to the status of orders, and other duties as assigned.
Performance Expectations
- Demonstrates the ability to perform routine maintenance task including lamp replacement, ceiling replacement, basic trouble shooting skills on equipment, and mounting various fixtures/equipment to walls using a variety of techniques based on the structure involved.
Qualifications:
Education/Skills
High school diploma or GED preferred.
Work Experience:
At least two years of experience in comparable work is required.
