Position Description

Advertised Job Summary
The Scholar Programs Coordinator is a professional position in the Office of Fellowships and Scholar Programs, a unit in the Honors College. Staff members should possess a wide-ranging intellectual curiosity and a commitment to working with high ability students. Job Duties: Support of the development and implementation of programs, activities, and administrative and assessment duties within Scholar Programs to provide an enhanced University experience for the Top Scholar population: Stamps, Carolina, McNair, 1801 and Horseshoe Scholars. Coordinate Stamps Scholars programs, advise Stamps Scholars on the enrichment opportunities, manage financial reporting/aspects the Stamps program. Provide personal advising to scholars through holistic advising processes (First Year Scholar Chats, Sophomore Strategy Sessions) and individual appointments. Coordinate weekly communication with scholars and advise student organizations within Scholar Programs as assigned. Advise, counsel and support scholars, as well as other undergraduates throughout the entire process of considering and applying for the various national fellowships and scholarships. Provide support to nominated competitions (such as Fulbright, Goldwater, Udall, etc.) to include student advising, and committee meetings, interview scheduling, and communication among staff, students, and committee members. Provide assistance with national fellowship outreach activities including information sessions, workshops, and presentations.

As a staff member in a multi-function unit, the position may include additional responsibilities as assigned to meet the needs of USC’s academically talented students and to support the academic mission of the University.

Minimum Qualifications (Classified and Unclassified positions)
Master’s degree in Student Services or related field, or bachelor’s degree and 2 years related experience.

Preferred Qualifications
Prior work with post-secondary high ability students, knowledge of national fellowship competitions.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
Excellent written and oral communication skills, exercise good judgment and discretion, and be able to work courteously with diverse groups. Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize tasks and maintain confidentiality. Strong computer skills, research skills, presentation skills, good problem solving skills, and the ability to use the internet and social media. Strong analytical skills and the ability to interpret information accurately are critical. Experience in advising post-secondary students required.
