Data Scientist Job Description
The Data Scientist is responsible for all aspects of data acquisition and management. This role serves users throughout the business by collecting, auditing, and cleansing data from various sources to create a “single source of truth.” In addition, the Data Scientist performs advanced analysis to support decision making and to discover profit-improvement opportunities. The position collaborates with a cross-functional team to maintain efficient business practices. The ideal candidate combines practiced skill in manipulating data sets with a strong business acumen to support accurate, rapid, and proactive information-based decision making.
The job of Data Scientist is important to our business success by providing information to support actionable insights about sales activity, process effectiveness, and attainment of KPI goals and external benchmarks. Further, this role serves as a champion of leveraging data to maximize business potential.
Responsibilities
- Import and maintain data in MS SQL Server
- Use proprietary reporting tools to extract data from ERP system
- Collect master and transactional data for all areas of the business (e.g. product management, sales and customer activity, finance, expenses, commissions, human resources)
- Communicate directly with vendors to request and discuss vendor-supplied data
- Coordinate data requirements & collection methods to ensure consistency, integrity, and control
- Develop audit processes of source data to ensure it is properly cleansed and standardized
- Review user requests describing database improvements to estimate required time and cost
- Maintain the integrity and performance of existing databases, in particular through standardized audits and comparison to reference systems
- Take prompt action to notify users and resolve known data quality issues
- Document data sources, definitions, import processes, and permission policies
- Plan, coordinate, and implement security measures to safeguard information against accidental/unauthorized damage, modification, or disclosure
- Identify data trends, relationships, and key indicators that lead to actionable advice
- Augments data discoveries by investigating through discussion or other means
- Discuss findings and recommendations from datasets with stakeholders
- Design, build, deliver and manage dashboards to support strategic goals
- Provide routine & ad-hoc reporting and analysis
- Prepare regular written reports and presentations to leadership
- Guide and educate staff on BI tools and best practices to improve use of data in their work
- Regularly audit, update and cleanse master data files within ERP, especially product data and pricing
- Develop & maintain shared worksheets and other tools to facilitate users’ manual entry of information
- Assist with support and maintenance of ERP systems
- Manage and monitor automated extracts to share or post files to internal and external users
- Maintain an active understanding of the product offering and of the ways the organization operates to meet its objectives

Qualifications
- 2+ years performing advanced manipulations of large data sets
- Understanding of data warehousing concepts and methods
- Software & Programming Language Experience
- Microsoft Excel (advanced)
- SQL (intermediate)
- VBA (preferred)
- PowerShell reporting (preferred)
- Microsoft Access (preferred/intermediate)
- Other Experience
- Technical writing skills
- Supply chain operations
- Business intelligence tools (preferred)
- Bachelor’s degree in relevant field (e.g., business, computer science, data science, MIS, statistics, mathematics, economics) or equivalent combination of education and experience
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $75,000.00 - $110,000.00 per year
