We are currently seeking a Manager, Pathology. This position is located in West Jefferson, OH.
Battelle’s Life Science Research Center offers a staff of highly trained scientist and technicians, and state of the art facilities to support our clients’ toxicology, safety pharmacology, and inhalation research programs. Our multidisciplinary integrated approach to providing critical solutions for our pharmaceuticals, biotech, agrichemical, industrial, and government clients increases the speed of the development while maintaining quality and compliance.
The Manager of pathology is responsible for safe operations within the anatomic and clinical pathology laboratory sections and has overall responsibility, authority, and accountability for the management of technical lab sections (necropsy, histology, histopathology, and clinical pathology). Will oversee ~40 staff ranging from technicians to board certified veterinary pathologists who support three separate sites within Battelle. The Manager of pathology will manage activities of the laboratory to include administrative tasks, meeting financial objectives, meeting study milestones, and training, coordinating activities between the laboratory and other groups within and external to the pathology department.
Ensure Battelle’s staff, facilities, and capabilities are commiserate with the scientific, regulatory, and quality requirements of our clients.
Develop and implement strategic, operational and scientific plans for the Pathology group which define the market focus and operational services for Battelle’s clients.
Define new business areas of scientific development and contribute to the business decisions to grow Battelle’s overall capabilities.
Provide key client management and establish long-term client relationships to cultivate and develop future business potential.
Perform costing for anatomic and clinical pathology tasks, monitoring financial status reports, documenting and off-normal events and scope variations.
Ensure necropsy, histology and histopathology processes are completed in compliance with GLP’s, and SOP’s; including identifying, troubleshooting, and resolving necropsy and histology processing and staining issues
Staff workload and project assignment planning to ensure appropriate levels and skills available to meet deadlines and client needs.
Manage human resource activities including recruiting and hiring, performance management, and coaching opportunities for career development.
Manage non-staff resources, including laboratories, instruments, procedures, and equipment.
Submit capital equipment requests, required documentation for procurement, reviews bids, selects best bid based on technical evaluation and value.
Implement, execute and communicate the policies and strategic direction of senior leadership.
Review and respond to audits from internal and external clients.
Review and approval of proposals, reports, plans, and papers that go outside the Group.
Perform routine safety walk-through observations and provides necessary equipment to for staff to do their job safely.
THE FOLLOWING REQUIREMENTS MUST BE MET TO BE CONSIDERED FOR THIS POSITION:
An MBA, or Masters in Science or Engineering or relevant life science field and a 10-12 years' applicable experience working in anatomic pathology in a CRO,
At least 5 years’ management experience in pathology including experience selecting, motivating, and leading staff in achievement of organizational goals.
Directly relevant experience with anatomic and clinical pathology tasks and their execution in a CRO, Pharmaceutical or Government setting.
Consistent record of impactful performance and documented accomplishments in advancing pathology and image analysis, impacting business and operational processes, and personnel management.
Demonstrated communication skills to effectively interact with top management internally and with client organizations, subcontractors, consultants, staff and across multiple departments (i.e. Toxicology, Pharmacology, Inhalation).
Ability to work in a matrix organization across multiple departments (i.e. Safety Assessment, Inhalation, and Laboratory Animal Resources)
Strong knowledge and understanding of FDA, EPA, and OECD Good Laboratory Practice regulations.
A customer service focus and history of successful client interactions.
