The Wolfe Street Academy After School Program is in need of a chess coach! Our chess club meets twice per week. The students range from 2nd - 5th grade. The chess coach would supervise and guide up to 10 students during practices and tournaments. There are 3-4 Saturday tournaments throughout the year. The chess program is a partnership with the Baltimore Kids Chess League. Chess coaches receive a stipend from BKCL ranging from $500 to $1500 per year.

Wolfe Street Academy is a neighborhood charter school operated by the Baltimore Curriculum Project in Upper Fells Point, serving 258 students in grades Pre-K through 5. Wolfe is nestled on a city corner among row houses and small businesses, on a site that has housed a succession of public schools since 1852. Although the buildings have changed, these schools have always served the most recent immigrant population to seek a new and better life in Baltimore’s original port neighborhood. Wolfe Street Academy continues that tradition. Approximately 80% of our students come from recent immigrant households, and speak Spanish at home. Approximately 55% of our students receive ESL (English as a Second Language) instruction, and over 95% come from low-income households.
At Wolfe Street Academy, we have drawn together three key factors for success - Great People, Great Programs and Great Strategies. With the support of the Baltimore Curriculum Project, Wolfe Street Academy staff implements a quality-researched curriculum in an individualized manner so that every student learns. The entire school community sees that the challenges inherent in poverty and immigration pose some of the most significant barriers to student success, and seek to answer those needs through the Community School Initiative.
