Our data as a service platform and cloud-based solutions support the world’s most effective open and internal data sharing programs at every level of government. Our clients include the US Federal Government; half of the US states and most major US cities and counties. As a Site Reliability Engineer, you will build and manage the infrastructure necessary to host Socrata's exacting worldwide clients.

You will work side-by-side with the rest of the engineering team to ensure our new features and services meet our security and performance guidelines. Responsibilities
On a Typical Day, You Might...

Build a web-based service for displaying high-level monitoring and metrics.
Write tools to automate the identification and movement of datasets between service shards to reduce the occurrence of "hot spots" within our architecture.
Contribute patches to open-source tools to better support Socrata's mission and operations.
Participate in Socrata's on-call rotation, which includes all engineering staff.
Re-architect our deployment / continuous integration environment to support better and faster feedback for developers.
Partner with Socrata's security staff to implement advanced security and compliance requirements for our clients.
Diagnose and fix systems and software failures, and build additional automation to prevent the failure scenario from reoccurring.
Prototype new data storage backends, documenting the process for automating bootstrap and stress-testing procedures.
Qualifications
You are skilled in Linux.
You are an expert in at least one dynamically typed scripting language like Ruby or Python.
You have demonstrated proficiency with configuration management systems. Experience with Chef is a plus.
You have experience implementing highly availability and secure systems.
You have working knowledge of traditional RDBMS and NoSQL database technologies, including PostgreSQL, Cassandra, and/or ElasticSearch.
You are interested in working with engineers to help scale and optimize their services.
You are calm in high-pressure situations and skilled at triaging situations.
