Bob Evans Farms operates in multiple convenience foods categories within grocery and club. It holds #1 market positions in three major categories. This winning brand has been experiencing strong growth, a trend it's expecting to continue mostly through its leadership in the refrigerated dinner and breakfast categories. In addition to its flagship Bob Evans brand, the Bob Evans Farms portfolio proudly includes Owens, Simply Potatoes, Egg Beaters, Davidson's and Pineland Farms. Bob Evans Farms products are distributed nationally in retailers throughout North America. This includes national grocery chains like Kroger, Safeway, Whole Foods Market, and SuperValu; mass merchants Target and Walmart; as well as club stores and via e-commerce.
Reporting to the Director of Hog Procurement, the Pork Procurement Sr Manager is responsible for ensuring strategies for the most effective total cost of sows, including the cost to procure and the downstream costs associated with harvest operations and yield, while also ensuring compliance with all regulatory and company driven requirements. This includes generating procurement recommendations to support business goals in collaboration with the Director. Responsible for ensuring proper service to our manufacturing facilities including raw material supply and quality. Recommending and implementing strategies that lead to business growth.
Establish and manage relationships with BEF supplier partners
Ensure supplier compliance to regulatory and company mandated expectations, including Packers and Stockyards guidelines, and manage third-party audits.
Responsible for daily procurement of sows in support of harvest operations, and management of USDA Rules and Regulations on Mandatory Livestock Reporting.
Responsible for ensuring agreed upon contractual pricing is executed.
Development of productivity pipeline and leadership of identified projects.
Develop and support new purchasing metrics intended to identify where opportunities exist to improve department and company performance.
Plays an active role in the preparation of contracts, pricing agreements and purchasing proposals.
Ensure ongoing stability within department through cross training of daily ordering, reconciliation, and payment processes.
Coach and develop procurement analysts and buyers to master their talents and competencies required to create great relationships with partners that ensure long-term business and success.
Work to maximize the team's efficiency, productivity, and performance.
Identifies issues and resolves time sensitive issues and challenges through creativity, innovation and finding new solutions to complex tissues.
Leadership - Setting individual goals, developing capability within Procurement and modeling how to work together with other BEF business partners.
Identifies and communicates key responsibilities and practices to ensure the immediate team of direct reports promotes a successful attitude, confidence in leadership and teamwork to achieve business results.
Supports the implementation of company programs to ensure the success of BEF businesses and programs.
Eventually manages 1-2 direct reports
Bachelor’s Degree preferred
Minimum of 7-10 years’ experience in the food industry with purchasing of pork or other meat products and markets preferred.
In depth knowledge of pork commodity markets – meat science degree preferred
A thorough understanding of project management and continuous improvement.
Effective critical thinking, decision making and problem-solving skills.

Category management expertise, either as a merchant or account manager
