Experience and Education
Bachelor's degree in Health Information Management, Business Administration, Healthcare Administration or other related field and three (3) years progressively responsible related HIM experience including time in a lead/supervisory role OR Associates degree and five (5) years progressively responsible related HIM experience including time in a lead/supervisory role. RHIA or RHIT certification is required. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Supervises moderately complex unit of University of Texas Southwestern Health Systems. Ensures that production and quality control standards are met. Counsels employees, performs performance evaluations and trains new employees.
Writes, updates and revises policies and procedures for work group.
Completes weekly and monthly production reports for work group. Identifies problem areas and implements programs and training to resolve problems.
Reviews various reports, analyzes data, identifies problem areas and makes recommendations for resolution of problems.
Monitors correspondence received from various sources and identifies methods to decrease.
Resolves complex problems and questions by contacting clinical departments or appropriate authority.
Completes various special projects. Reviews and analyzes information.
Identifies problems, recommends solutions and/or writes reports for management or other personnel within established performance guidelines.
Duties performed may include one or more of the following core functions: (a) Directly interacting with or caring for patients; (b) Directly interacting with or caring for human-subjects research participants; (c) Regularly maintaining, modifying, releasing or similarly affecting patient records (including patient financial records); or (d) Regularly maintaining, modifying, releasing or similarly affecting human-subjects research records.
