Tony Downs Foods in Madelia, MN has an exciting opportunity to take the next step in your career. This position manages the R&D Department and is a key role in our business. Working with our sales and production departments, you will develop products that meet our customer requirements.
Education: Bachelor’s Degree or higher, preferably in Meat or Food Science
Years of Related Experience: 5+ years related experience
Technical knowledge in the manufacturing of Commercially Sterile products.
Advanced working knowledge of an R&D organization, including product development flow and project management from conception to product launch.
Formulation of new products.
Continuous improvement experience.
Must be proficient in presenting technical ideas and solutions in technical reports, proposals and in customer presentations.
Ability to define problems, collect and interpret data, draw valid conclusions, and propose solutions.
Must be able to translate customer’s needs into new products.
R &D Responsibilities
Plans, coordinates, documents, and reports on test runs and results. Identifies any potential issues or improvements to the process or formulations and discusses with management team.
Develops new products and line extensions from bench top to commercialization
Establishes an efficient base of external vendors for ingredients, packaging, equipment and technical support.
Provides upper management with formulation, cost, and yield information.
Organizes, implements, and controls project management and administration functions.
Maintains information regarding ingredient specifications, formulas, processes and analytical data such as quality attributes, yield information, and sensory results.
Reports on the sample status to team members and discusses any implications to the business.
Oversees the creation and approves modifications to specifications as required for new/revised SKU’s.
Secondary role for submitting label sketches to FSIS-LSPD for label approval.
Provide product information and technical support to customers.
Provide technical support to Sales, Quality Assurance, and Operations.
Helps identify Plant and Process Improvement Initiatives
Drives cost-out initiatives on existing products and process; follows through with in-plant trials.
