Job Summary:
The Office of Special Programs-College Prep (OSP-CP) is one of three college readiness programs operating under the Office of Civic Engagement at the University of Chicago. Since its inception 50 years ago its mission has been to work with area schools to engage and prepare underserved urban high school students for post-secondary and career success through academic, cultural, and social/emotional learning activities. OSP-CP activities help to equip students with higher-order thinking and lifelong learning skills. This preparation will ensure their acceptance and enrollment in an accredited institution of post-secondary education.

Currently, the program serves 118, ninth through twelfth grade students from Walter H. Dyett High School for The Arts, Hyde Park Academy, and Wendell Phillips Academy; as well as students who live in the following target communities: Douglas, Greater Grand Crossing, Washington Park, or Woodlawn.

Edits, reviews and proofs reports and other materials generated by others.
Coordinates with internal or external printers on layout, type, color schemes and presentation for greatest impact on the reader.
Develops participant, alumni, school and other external partner marketing/outreach themes, logos, campaigns, educational programs, websites, and other promotional materials designed to inform, educate or gain acceptance by participants and alumni, as well as the general public.
Designs or assists in designing outreach campaigns for presentation through the print and electronic media and other recognized resources.
Designs or assists in designing signs, advertising, publicity and other visual materials.
Meets with departmental representatives to understand projects, project goals, target audience and recommends the best methods for outreach and advertising.
Originates a variety of written and graphical materials including, but not limited to, press releases, reports, tabloids, web pages, flyers, and outreach campaigns.
Coordinates the design, implementation and maintenance of Internet, intranet and social media content.
Develops, designs, writes and reviews content of Department website.
Creates graphics and manipulate photos; optimize images and graphics files for use with marketing/outreach materials.

Fluency in English required; bi-lingual in Spanish preferred.
Excellent consulting, writing, editing (photo/video/text), presentation and communication skills
Demonstrable experience in social media networking and analytics tools.,or as a digital media specialist.
Adequate knowledge of web design/development.
Positive attitude, detail and customer oriented with good multitasking organizational and prioritizing ability.
Self-starter, Works well in a team environment.
Communicates effectively and professionally, Attention to detail.
Availablility to work evenings and weekends as needed.
Additional Requirements

Education, Experience, and Certifications:

Bachelor’s degree required

Experience in communications, marketing, public relations or new media preferred
